Hi everyone,

I am currently a student at Carrington College,Sacramento. If you have any questions about the school, experience or clinical feel free to ask. I was trying to find a thread like this before I got in the program and had no luck! Hopefully this helps someone.

Hi curly!

I am not in CA but am considering Carrington in phoenix az. My biggest concern is affording this school. I know I will not get any Pell grant money, and am wondering how other people get through this school without having to work full time. I have a 3 year that I stay at home with currently , so paying for daycare will be a new expense also..but it's now or never for school, not getting any younger lol!

Hey Jennyroo,

That's a huge concern to the majority of people that attend Carrington. To be honest there are many lifestyle changes that will have to happen. I currently have three loans, two federal and one private. However, in a few months I have the benefit of using a GI Bill. This is an option I try to push on people, joining the Air Force or Army Reserves won't just save you money but also PAY you. *Look into it.

If you're not interested in that you have other options.1)Loans, which the majority of people use 3) Private pay, you have the option of paying upfront 4)Moving and finding a more affordable school

The tuition is one part of the cost of nursing school, you also have to factor in: scrubs, study material, daycare, transportation costs, etc. It can get costly you have to have more than one plan!

Hi Curly, I was wondering what the cost was, how long is the program, and what types of programs are offered? I already have a Bachelors degree and I have taken all the Nursing pre-reqs for other RN programs as well. Also, is the school accredited by WASC and the Nursing Board? Are the courses transferable to other BSN or MSN programs? Sorry for all the questions! 😃

They are WASC Accredited and Approved by the California BRN.

They only have an LVN to RN and LVN program in California. They offer RN program in Phoenix, AZ and Reno, NV.

They are a certificate program only. No degree.

The only degree they offer are Associates in Health Studies.

Here is the website. You would have to search or call the campus for tuition rates.

You can recieve an LVN degree and I BELIEVE you receive an ADN after the RN program (im currently clarifying this with my rep). The LVN program is pretty intense. The material is not particularly hard but it's FAST. I'll post when I get clarification about the 30 unit vs the ADN

Here is what is on the website:

Our Sacramento Registered Nursing LVN to RN program allows LVNs to build on the credit they earned during their Licensed Vocational Nurse training (also known as Licensed Practical Nurse in some states). It enables LVNs in the Sacramento area to expand their skills and knowledge, and take their career to the next level. So if you're looking for an LVN to RN school in Sacramento, put Carrington College on your list of programs to consider because:

  • The program culminates in an Associate of Science degree in Registered Nursing
  • Graduates are prepared for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)*
  • Our Sacramento faculty prepare their students to meet the increased responsibilities faced by RNs
  • The intensive 8 month program mixes formal instruction with clinical exercises**

I, like many other students opted for the LVN certificate instead of the degree program. We did this because we have already completed our prereqs at other schools. I'm getting clarification on the RN prereqs now, making sure that they will transfer seamlessly into the ASN program(Because who wants to retake classes?!).

@Curly, I spoke w/ D at the Sac campus, and she said that the only Nursing pre-reqs that would transfer over to Carrington was Anatomy and Physiology. Do you know how long and how much the LVN certificate program is? Thx for the info 😄

Hi Curly,

I was strongly considering the Carrington College LVN to RN program out in Sacramento. But like many other s I got turned awasy with the high tuition rates and decided to wait for a junior college to accept me. But I do still think about going to Carrington. I just wanted to ask a few questions....What is their schedule like with school and clinical sites? Is the testing very difficult? How are the teachers? Would you recommend others to going here? I believe I read its a 9 month bridge program which I find very tempting to look further into...any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

How is Carrington College?

Hey curlykirby,

i am am considering the LVN program at Carrington in Sacramento this July; how has you experience been so far? Class size? Cost? Teachers? And your opinion on the overall course. What were the requirement for the program?

Thanks so so much in advance and good luck in your studies!

Sorry I've been so busy i never logged on! Well, Carrington is a lot of things. I chose to stay positive throughout my experience. It's very expensive,it can be really disorganized, its a private school so some of your classmates will feel "entitled" to getting everything they want. BUT some of the instructors are amazing, the Dean of Nursing is fantastic and the majority of the clinical sites are enjoyable.
