hello well if you've been out of work for 5 years so a refresher course would definetly help with your clinical skils, confidence. GOOD LUCK
1.) check your states board of nursing see what status is your license. Then follow BON rules to get it to active status.
2.) get your BLS, ACLS, or wahteve certifications up to date
3.) get your medical malpractice Liability Insurance - just pay
4.) register for a refresher course
5.) do some volunteer work to get some contacts, network
6.) practice your basics assessments, BP manual vitals have to be able to do it in your sleep, can volunteer services at senior centers too to take thier BP do some teaching on diet, lifestyle changhre

It's not only experienced nurses that have a difficult time job hunting, it's the new grads too.
There's a school somewhere in the OC that offers refresher courses. I can't recall the name though.
As to malpractice insurance, when we were in school, we got it from the NSO. I don't know if there are other malpractice insurance companies, but I know for a fact that NSO is one.
Volunteer and get connections! Right now, it's all about who you know.
Good luck!
