Care plans are stupid.

one thing that is interesting about care plans.. in school you write them down, they are methodical and purposeful, you have to really think about it.

in the real world, you do the care plan in your head, it is all internal and you do not really realize you are doing it. it is almost instantaneous.

I do actually. Thanks! :-)

You're welcome.........sometimes you just gotta yell!!!!!!! xoxo

They are stupid but it is because of the experiences we have with them depends on the professor. For example, my first semester we had a pre and post conference, we did a little research and really thought about how we were caring for our patients. This semester my blabber mouth of a prof who LOVES to shoot down whatever nursing dx, interventions and rationales. Spends most of the night talking about her personal life. There isn't a pre or post conference instead she loves to point our how she has written the lecture for this, taught these many people, has been advocating for that. What's worse is when she hands them back its nothing scribbles which is her handwriting. This semester v.s last semester I HATE THEM but why? Its the professor.

Having moved from a country where they were compulsory to a country where they don't exist, my personal opinion is that they are a waste of the nurse's time and totally unnecessary.

I know how to care for my patients without referring to a care plan. And I have more important things to be doing at the bedside than to be sitting at the desk writing and reading them.

I don't disagree with you for a seasoned nurse. For a newbie learning how to take care of a patient who has never worked in a healthcare setting its a nice way to see "how the dots connect". Outside of that it takes you away from your patient.
