Cape Fear CC 2011?

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Any people applied to CFCC for fall of 2011 and waiting for the letters? I did and am going crazy! hoping it will be end of March/early April. Point count reviews are this week.

I just got my acceptance letter into the CFCC Fall 2011 ADN program and I just wanted to post my scores for future reference to those wondering an 'approximate' point count total for acceptance.. although next year I'm sure it will be totally different but anywho, I was obsessing and googling similar info myself last fall so here it is...

My overall point count total was 339. On the PSB, I made:

Verbal 97

Arithemtic 80

Non Verbal 86

Natural Science 73

Spelling 69

Reading Comprehension 98

Vocational 97

I also had all of my pre requisites completed with the exception of the higher level English at the time of my application. I had A's in all subjects and had also completed ACA 122 worth 5 points and attended the information session worth 2 points. All in all I received a total score of 78 based on grades. Half of 78 plus half of 600 from PSB = 339. I definitely did not do as great on the PSB as I would have hoped, so I was never certain that I would get in but boy was I excited and relieved to finally get that letter! I went in to speak with the director of nursing to day to get an idea of the weekly schedule and I happened to see my spot on the acceptance list.. I was like number 70 or so!Just barely made it in.. whew! So, most of the other people that got in had better scores! I guess it is just extremely competitive with the lack of jobs everyone is wanting to go into allied health fields.

I am really sorry to all who did not get in.. maybe you could apply to the LPN program? Apllication period is now and you can transition into the RN program once you complete the LPN. Good luck to all whatever you decide to pursue..

Sorry gals:-( I didn't get in either and now I'm wondering what to do for the next year?!? I'm actually contemplating another career now. I'm almost 35, have two children and I feel like I can't just stand still another year in hopes that I'll get in the next time. I'm a massage therapist now, but my body can't take doing that full-time much longer!

Congrats to everyone that was accepted, it is crazy to think that 8 points separated 70ish'th place and not even getting an alternate, very competitive field, I had 331, will just have to tack on the last few classes and try agin next year. Thank you jaimeandjules for the info and good luck with the program!!

HEY AGAIN!... ok so after about a week of being depressed and wondering what the heck im doing with my life (ill be 30 in june) - i realized, ok its not the end of the world .... we can all try again... i know its a huge bummer!!! ...but hey - for those of you wondering what to do in the meantime (if you didnt get in this year like me :(...i hate saying that), have you thought of taking the cna1 course at cape fear? i know its not ADN, and it's starting at the bottom, but its hands on experience, and you can get a job in the area.... CNAs jobs are all over the place .... even at the hospital...i'm taking it now (jan-may) and let me tell you - i'm definitely glad i signed up before starting the RN program ...lol...you think taking vitals, and giving bed baths and remembering all the little rules, such as providing privacy, stop-knock-ask-tell, bed rails, transfering a patient - are easy tasks.... but when it has to be done in certain ways, etc, ITS TOUGH!!! its def a good idea to get an idea while youre waiting... the Next CNA1 (aka Nurse aide1) course starts in may i think... its listed on the website... **** its 1st come 1st serve, SO i was on line at 230 AM in january to get a spot - freezing to death LOL there was a LINE of people behind me...so if this sounds like something youre interested in, be there at like 230-3am...with a folding chair, coffee and a blanket (maybe not in may) but seriously lol............. i paid 198.00 for the course....i chose the M/W night class 5pm-10pm (you get out earlier a lot) they have a T/Th, an all day sat class ...and some other weekend one...its onine...... there are 5 written tests...you can take 2 of them over if you need to (but if you dont pass those you get kicked out)....then theres a written vital signs test and an actual vital signs test (BP, Resp, Pulse etc)...if you pass that you can take the final....then if you pass the final you go to clinicals...(one of the nursing homes in the area) for about 3 weeks......if you pass, you are elig. to take the State Test to become certified... which is a written and a Skills test (where you are given 5 random (of 25) skills to complete in 30 min) ............ let me know if you have any questions... or email me at [email protected].....

also, ---- WTC-Wilmington ------- this could be a rumor but i heard someone with 320 got in ?????? i heard the range was from 320-380 and i just saw you had 331 and didnt... i dont get it??? i would check on it... again it could be a rumor so i dont want to stir up anything crazy lol... but i wanted to give you a heads up...

Thanks Courtney, I might def have to check into that, it kinda hurts knowing that I was so close, I am going to stop by school today, I would be ecstatic if my status changed, going to try and not get my hopes up though. If not I'll just be that much better for next year. I'll post how it goes.

So are any of you applying to the LPN program? I took my PSB for that yesterday am. The girl I was sitting beside took it last year and said she didn't find out until June that she didn't get in!!!! When I signed my intent form to apply the counselor said that a lot of applicants that didn't make it into the RN program was applying for the LPN program. Just curious if you all were going to wait until next year again? I wasn't really thrilled to apply for the LPN program, but I thought I would exhaust all of my options.

Has anyone considered Brunswick Community college ADN? I understand the wait time to enter is not as severe.

I'm taking the test for Brunswick on Tuesday am for the RN program. There is no wait list for this program. They choose the top 25 scores from the test for admittance. That is their only criteria supposedly.

wish you could chat on this thing! I see you're online right now!

Good luck to you! I have met many BCCC ADN grads that I respect for their competency and skills. I understand they use the same facilities as CFCC.

Thank you! I'm really nervous about the test. BCCC is going to be a lot closer to me than CFCC because I'm moving to Holden Beach in June, but I'll go wherever I get in!

What is your status? Are you already a nurse? That is interesting that they would use the same facilities seeing that they're about 30-40 minutes away from each other. Thanks for your input!
