Can't pass spoken section on Toefl

Published

Hello eveyone,

I 've passed NCLEX last January and have contract with hospital on my hand. But I can't pass spoken section on Toefl and hospital representative sayed they won't fill in I-140 and will wait when i pass.

I recieved 97 points on Toefl and only 22 poins on spoken section twice (26 out of 30 is required). Now I'm waiting for the 3 test results but i'm not sure i've passed.

Does anyone have the same problem? Or how long did it take for you to pass spoken exam? And may be next time i should take IELTS. Is it easier?

Thank you.

Dear jrhyle.

I have the same proble as the other nurses in this thread; I applied for the VSC becauseonly items letf to be send were initial license from home country and TOEFL which I believed I had passed ( got 99), but they want us to have 26 in Speaking portion.

The fact is that I just took it for the yhird time in one year frame time, and belive me I am sssooo scare of taken any English test at this point.

Therefore my question is, can you tell me some reasons the IELTS is less painful? I ask this question because I have studied English in the USA and I think IELTS uses spelling from Englan; am I correct or am I misunderstanding.

my last speaking score in TOEFL was 23:( with 89 overall. To be more specific; the IELTS has the same sections and the speaking is NOT infront of a computer? ; so the person is there?

Can anybody give me a short description ( of course; no details) Is it helpull to buy their (IELTS) practice books?

Thanks

I think the Speaking section makes all the difference. You get an interviewer to give you your speaking tasks. Although the interviewer reads out from a card without contirbuting anything of his/her own, I found it very helpful to speak to a live person acknowledging my answers. But that is just my opiniion.

IELTS uses International English. Both American and British spellings are acceptable. Although it seems in rare cases British or Australian usage maybe chosen over American.

Hope this helps. Best of luck.

I plan to do the IELTS in July. I dont think i did soo well on the last TOEFL-IBT and therefore not giving it a moments wait.I'm doing IELTS and get on with the procedurals for the Visascreen.

Thanks to everyone who gave their experience and opinions.

Most that I have coached have found the IELTS to be much easier on them to pass. Most find it easier to speak with a human than talk to a machine.

The rest of the exams are similar, but this difference can be significant for many.

Watch as many American movies as you can. Pay attention to how they speak, and it also gives good schooling in listening to different dialects.

Even the news channels, whether local or International.
