Can't get a job in Cincinnati Ohio as a RN

Published

I completed my registered nurse boards in April 2015. I live in Cincinnati Ohio. Why is it so hard to get a job in a hospital.even nursing homes is wanting you to have at least two years of experience. I don't know what to do

Have you looked into new grad residency programs in your area?

I have never heard of such programs in this area

I'm from this area as well and a recent grad/just passed my boards. I had a position before I graduated in a residency program. Your a little late now for these programs since most have done their hiring, but I would look into the mercy health system, christ, and bethesda. If your willing to drive, premier health is nice too.

Thanks for the info. Do you know when most residency programs begin? Is a BSN preferred or is an associates ok to enter?

I have a bsn. That may be why your having difficulties if you have your asn. I know this area is moving toward bsn nurses because many hospitals are trying to get magnet status. I graduated with my bsn and probably half of my class had offers before graduation. I know some will still hire asn but just require that you complete your bsn in a certain amount of time. Most of the residencies begin this month but some have another start date in the fall.

Thanks. I'm going to look at Kettering hospital its about a hr drive but I travel about 50 minutes now to a LTAC job now. I really want the hospital experience

I think you have the right idea. If you need to commute, so be it. Probably worth it for sure.

I grew up around that area in Indiana. Have you tried the hospitals in Florence, KY or any of the smaller hospitals in the tri-state? You may need to apply for a license in Indiana and Kentucky if it doesn't match with the Ohio license, but that could help expand your search and job opportunities. Best of luck!
