I am attempting to work agency PRN, but someone used my name numerous times. It shows up on record that I committed crimes, but I did not. I am thinking about changing my name and social security number. How could I go about working and getting a job, or changing my name and getting a new social secrity number. What do I say to a new potential employer about this problem. Do I mention it after the application are before. Please Help.

Someone can easily have the same name as you, but did the person who caused the crimes have the same social security number and birthdate.
And what nursing license number was used, was it yours or another. If they used your ID, and it wasn't you, then they were also commiting fraud, and this should be reported to the police.
You are going to have a hard time trying to get another social security number issued to you.

But 15 years ago my purse was stolen and whenever the law department pulls up my ss number my name shows up, but the b-day is different. It is frustrating. I have contacted the Florida law enforcement a few times, but corrections are made, but then it pops up again. Thats why I mentioned name and ss number.

I suggest checking with an attorney there. A name change can be made, but usually it is quite hard to get a different Social Security Number issued to you. In the interim, I would get some documentation from law enforcement to have with you when applying for a job. That should help........... :)
I never thought about taking the documents with me when applying for a job, probably oversight. ThanK you very very much Ann86
You are welcome.................. :)

just wanted to let you know if feel for you and understand part of yur frustration. half the reason i work agency is because i live in a rural area where someone with the same name has abused drugs and commited many petty crimes. because of the name, not only will no stores take my checks but our tiny (20 beds--recently expanded from 10!) county hospital will not grant me an interview even when they have ads and signs up for staff needed. since this means driving a distance to another county..well, might as well get paid agency rates to do it! always wondered, though, why logic never kicked in for the hr at the hospital--geez, if i was the druggie who kept getting in jail i couldn't exactly have a valid license now could i?
thank you for your reply.. Maybe I should change my name legally, but It will be hard because I have children and grandchildren. And if I retain my birth and married name it will take years to clear this up..like I said before i had my self fingerprinted and I sent the results to the florida law enforcement department, But its beyond that, my credit at one point my driver license which is cleared at this time. Its beyond me, it has already been 2-3 years. I guess I have to have faith in the system. Hopefully without being hungry .

Just a side note but a truly proper background check includes a fingerprint check. Request one. I had that issue pop up when I applied for a job at a state run university hospital- my name popped up as being a wanted fugitive my respose was to have the check be more through and detailed. When they did so... ie my fingerprints were on file with the FBI from a prior nursing license application they did not match the ones that went along with said wanted persons criminal record/warrents.
Also if they give you some excuse about not wanting to that my response would be" How do you know then that you truly dont have someone with a criminal backgrond working here?"

Finger prints were submitted earlier, but it still pop up here and there. When I think that the matter is resolved it pops up again. I am a person who travels a lot, sometimes it is for maybe 1-2 years in different cities, with my family. Sometimes it is a problem obtaining a job and sometimes it is not. I am sick of explaining the situation every 1-2 years for the last 3 years with different companies. It is a headache. I have been a nurse for 13 years without a problem, and all of a sudden this slanderous situation happens. Just venting.. I apologize. But I appreciate your response. thank you
