Canadian LPN wanting to work in US!

If you are a US citizen, why would it be a problem? What have you read that suggests this isn't possible? The only thing I can think of is if your education doesn't meet the standards for you to be eligible for licensure, and I doubt that's the case, coming from Canada. You will have to write the NCLEX-PN, though.

Has someone told you that you're not going to be able to do this??

Of course, jobs can be hard to find in this economy, apart from the question of licensure ...

I guess everyone was saying that you can't work in the us because you are a Candian RPN, but because I have a US citzenship, that must make it simpilar. They were probably talking about getting work visa's to work correct? It will be easier for me? If so I am really excited! I want to work in the US so badly!

Why? From what we read on here the PN's scope of practice is determined by the State where employed, many are restricted to LTC. Posters here constantly talk about feeling unvalued and a less than valuable nurse.

No thanks. I like working in a hospital as a valued member of staff. Up here we are unionized and make more than RNs in several states.

If anyone could help me with the reverse situation, I would be greatful. I am licensed in PA but my husband wants me to move back to Ontario with him (he's Canadian, but I am not) and I just don't know how to get licensed in Ontario.

Look in the Canadian thread. There is a post with all the provincial Colleges of Nurses. CNO is the place to start.

How did you get LPN in Canada? I am trying to find out how I can move to Ontario with my Canadian husband and work as LPN there...now I have people responding to my inquiry on this forum telling me there is no such thing as an LPN in Canada....my in-laws say there certainly is it is just called something else. I'm soo confused!

There are LPNs in Canada. I believe that Ontario is the only province that refers to them as RPNs(Registered Practical Nurses). To make things confusing in the beautiful province of BC, RPNs are Registered Psychiatric Nurses, which is something else altogether.

PN education up here is moving towards a 2 year program, I am not sure if everywhere has adopted this yet. The big question is whether or not they will accept your education up here. You will have to contact the CNO and see what they say. Best of luck and let us know how you get on.
