Can i work out while in nursing school?

Published

I have been working out at a gym since I was 16 years old, I wonder if now when i start nursing school, I will have anytime for this at least three times a week..keep in mind i don't work and no kids..i usually feel better when i exercise, its a great stress reliever rite? and i sleep better..My thing is, i know i will feel guilty being at the gym and i will start thinking i should be studying or doing something for school, any advice?

Hey pink..thankyou! wow thats awesome! :) but how do u read or study while on the treadmill, if the radio is blasting and your surrounded by a bunch of people gossiping or what not..i wouldn't be able to concentrate..i usually listen to music while working out because it pushes or motivates me..shouldn't i be taking a break from studying though while exercisng..the point is also to get away from the books for a lil bit lol wut do u think?

I would often times listen to my own music with my ipod. I'd put on something I listened to all the time and that way I could keep it background. Does that make sense? If I'm listening to new music, I'd be really listening to it, concentrating on the lyrics or whatever. But with something old that I know so well I can tune it out. Or I'd try to go to the gym at off-times when it wasn't so busy. I know though that in nursing school you really have no flexibility and pretty much go when you can go. As for taking time away from the books, it really depended on how much studying I had to do and where I was mentally. If I needed a break I'd read mindless magazines...shhhh...don't tell haha. But if I had a big test coming up or something I'd study while working out and then not have to feel guilty at all. Not that you should anyway--staying healthy is vital to getting through school and being a nurse. And being happy in life :)

Yep, you can still work out!

How far is your school from your gym? My school has its own gym which I go to. You could go in the morning, or right after class. Exercising energizes you, so you'll have more energy to study!

I normally bring my notecards with me to the gym. There easy to look over when your on the eliptical or bike.

keep up with a good schedule that includes all of body esp the legs

when i went back to nursing after being off for 5-6 months of mostly no walking at all, d/t broken kneecap, i thought i was going to die before the shift was over...

good luck

Did i mention i love this website..it has answered so many of my questions, i have read so many forums..lol its a lil addicting though :).. thanx for ur replys..i wish my school had a gym though, my old school does and its free, but its so far away..the new school im driving to is a little farther away..it sux to have to drive to my school which is quite a drive and then have to drive all the way to my old school where the gym is..and with gas prices so high and i dont work, i don't know if that will be such a great idea :( well i have small car and it doesnt take to much 2 fill the tank, .. there is a gym 5 minutes near my house but they charge 37 a month, its pretty pricey, don't know wut to do? Any advice?

With gas prices $37 a month may not actually be too bad, if its only 5 minutes away from home, and if you really love the gym I think 37 bucks would totally be worth it. Its a great way to relax. But if its not in your budget you could always consider alternatives to the gym. Jogging outside, exercise dvds, buying some small exercise equpitment like a step for step areobics and some hand weights, subsrcibing to a exercise magazine such as fitness or shape and trying out some of there workouts....

I had a new baby when I started nursing school - class is like a job, usually 5-8 hours a day. After class, I would go on the stair master and read my book before I went to pick up my son from the babysitter. I would give myself 30 minutes a day, which was a dream, but also to study made the exercising time pass quickly and I was killing two birds with one stone. You have no kids, so you should be able to work out every day! And go out to eat, study until whenever you like without interruption.... how could you feel guilty to work out, add on that exercise time to your studying if you feel so bad.

Thankyou :) for all ur replys, lets c what i do..but i definitely want 2 continue 2 workout while going to school, if money is an issue..i will walk around the block or find something active to do.
