not giving 2 weeks notice???? would the board take any action for that? especially if the reason you want to leave is because you fear losing your license if you stay and sign off on nurses paperwork for visits done over 4 weeks ago but the notes were done yesterday?!?!?
Uggh! how DO i get myself into these situations?????:uhoh21:

no! you absolutely can't get in any trouble for not giving a two weeks notice.
did you sign off on another nurses paperwork for visits done over 4 weeks ago but the notes were done yesterday? or, is that something they are asking you to do?
if you did it, shame on you, you should know better but resolve to never do that again and go on with your life
if that is something they are asking you to do...refuse. their signatures are as good as yours, only they know it's wrong and are willing to stick you with the dirty deed. shame on them.
either way, i'd get out, notice or none....
no i havent signed anything for this nurse....but i was pressured all day to get her visits verified.... she skimped on all of the notes b/c how in the world would anyone remember what they did yesterday never mind a month or more ago.....
all but one nurse in this relatively small agency is allowed to get that far behind...they say they are afraid to address it too harshly b/c the field staff will leave but the admin is putting pressure on me to "close for the 15th of the month and it is your job to verify those notes and sign off on them" .... when i mentioned that i would not do this and i would resign first i was threatened with "2 wk notice or we will report you for job abandonment!"

My reply would be "Fine, go ahead, no one gets in trouble for "job" abandoment. They might however be interested in what you're pressuring me to do".
You did not get yourself into this trouble, they tried to put you into it. Stick to your guns girl!!!!

i LIKE you..... thx for the encouragement....i needed to talk to someone that would back me up.... after literally being cornered and badgered all day..... :angryfire
You are most welcome spacenurse. I think it's deplorable that your employer would treat you like that. That's not a place where you need to be. There are decent reputable companies out there.
We all know that it is possible to get into trouble over patient abandoment but even that depends on the situation. Abusive patients, abusive families, unsafe enviroment for the nurse, etc....and in those situations your management should back you up 100% for leaving a bad situation. It's happened to me and they promptly called the doctor and said "thanks but no thanks, our nurses are not going back, we're done".
But job abandoment puhleeassee.... who are they try to fool? Shame on them.
It's your decision whether or not to give a 2 weeks notice...don't base it on their scare tactics but rather what is right for you. Likely they won't be giving you a good reference either way. Giving a bad reference is not allowed anymore but they don't seem to be following the rules. Good Luck Hon. Let us know. (((((((spacenurse:redbeathe)))))))

Tonight, i was trying to read nursing notes re functional status as received request from PCP for PT eval for power scooter. I pulled up electronic note from 7/16: blank except VS. 7/6 note: blank ---wound care note pulled over:blank
Note from 6/27 showed hundreds of maggots in new RLE wound, amb w walker, RNcalled doctor and now using Unna Boot on BLE.
.....went back further, 2 multipurpose notes from 6/26 + 6/25 shed some light on needing paratransit and that RN went with pt to appointments with wound specialist.......6/22 note BLANK!!!
Went to OASIS from begining of month found info I needed: no shower/bathing area, rundown apt, pt unable to read, unable to bend down reach legs to change socks etc.
Left VM for branch manager re my findings.
a. RN/LPN responsible for their documentation, not you. No need for you to co-sign notes.
b.You ARE responsbile for hauling staff member in to deliver said missing notes.
BON does not get involved in employment disputes....that would be labor board. Look up your states definition of abandoment: involves "PATIENTabandoment", not employer.
I feel your pain as had similar situation last job, small agency. DON so "desperate" for staff, as long as patient seen, put up with late documentation....got to be STAFF running the show, instead managment.
Learned I COULD NOT hold paycheck since "work performed" , but COULD tell staff member they had to bring documentation into office and meet with me prior to receiving paycheck. 2 sessions of "expectations" led 2 staff to fall into place; one resigned.
When I came to present agency, they had similar situation in one office and they learned hard billing lesson: YOU CANNOT AFFORD employee like this. Chart got pulled by state---entire day spent in office by RN to get incomplete notes filled out.
Can't bill if no paperwork in chart so really paying out salary they can't recoup.
Polish up that resume...

I hope you can't get in trouble for not giving two weeks notice, because I'm working for a FAKE DOCTOR and I need a new job.
I'm assuming that why you are "Stunned RN"? Tell us about it if you feel comfortable sharing. I'm very curious. I hope you enjoy all nurses.

we had a similar situation in the agency i work for,,,nurse quit no notice, adm said they would notify BON re: abandoment of patients,,,employee called BON in front of the adm and BON said in home health a nurse can't be charged with abandoment
YEP that's exactly what you should do, call the BON and see what THEY say. My fake MD supervisor gets really upset when I do that though. It's really creepy to work there.:uhoh21:
what do you mean fake MD supervisor? are you in home health?
