I am just curious if a person who is in a BSN program can get their LVN while still in the program. I would like to work while in the program but not as a CNA. Anyone have an idea?

Best way to get your answer is to contact your state BON. The ability to get ones LVN varies state to state.
Curious, why dont you want to work as a CNA? You'll get more hospital experience and be more prepared to work in the hospital when you obtain your BSN. Most hospitals (not sure about your area), are not hiring LVN's and you would be working in a nursing home/assisted living facility.
Just curious..
I am a CNA currently and wanted more responsibility/experience. Also the pay is greater as an LPN

First you need to contact your state Board to see if it is allowed. If your state allows it, then go to your school administration and find out if they will cooperate with your application. If your school will not sign off on the paperwork, you are out of luck. Not all schools do this for their students. I did this, as did several in my class, but I'm not in Idaho and it was many years ago.

Yes, but I think it depends on what state your residing. In CA, one year into your RN program or when you've met the requirements you can challenge the LVN board.

It used to be that you could sit for your LVN/LPN after a certain number of semesters. Most states have done away with this, including NYS where I live due to safety issues. So unless the school is specifically set up to to teach you your LVN first and then go on to the next step, it is probably unlikely. But I agree to check with you BON to see if your state still allows this.
