I'm in RN School now (3rd week of fundamentals) with no healthcare expirence. I have heard somewhat of RN students, after some time in the program, may sit for the LPN license. Is this true in florida? What does one need to meet the requirements to take the exam (as a RN student)? Thanks!

Yes. However, I think it depends on the school and if their program is geared that way. Check with your school. If students are talking about it, then it might be true for your program.
Saint Petersburg College allows students after one year to sit for LPN boards. Most choose not to because they are too busy with school and can't devote the time or stress towards taking LPN boards, or work in hospitals as techs that do not use LPNs.
Good luck.

I know a few years back, 9 now i guess our program was set up just for that. We could test for LPN after the first year. Infact some student only got into the program for the first year and went on to the second after they re-appliedc. The school at the time encouraged us to take the LPN boards as it gave us "practice" for the next time.

Like someone already said, check with your school. I know the college I will be attending in the fall, does not allowed anyone to take the LPN exam. The program is not set up like that. Good luck to you.

I know of some people who failed the rn license and then sat for lpn because at one time the tests were only given twice a year and if you failed a test you were unable to hold a job until you passed it
i think that now it depends on what courses you have passed and how much clinicals you have completed

I know that after a semester of clinicals in rn or lpn u qualify to sit for the cna test
Thanks for the replies. I talked to my school and they said they are currently debating if we may take the LPN exam. Aparentlly all we need is permission and proof from our school that we have met the min requirements or above to hold a LPN License. It woulnt be able for atlease 8 more months, no rush but it would be cool.
