I am a new RN licensed in Missouri and working as an LPN in illinois.( licensed as an LPN in both states) Our nursing home has started taking new residents with IV's and am not sure of what we can give?

I don't think LVNs/LPNs anywhere can administer IVP meds except for heparin, but the best place to find out would be your state board.

There are a few states that do allow LPN's to administer IVP meds (Indiana being one of them). I do not know about IL-Contacting your BON would be your best bet.

It depends if the facility you are working at offers a class in IV med administration. You can become certified as an LPN II (IV) and give certain premixed iv piggyback meds. You can't give IV push medications. You can't administer blood or blood products. Contact the IL Department of Professional Regulation in Springfield, IL. They can give you all the information that you need.
