Can I afford Colorado?

Published

I am really wanting out of Arkansas as soon as my daughter graduates hs. I have been researching Colorado Springs. So far it appears to get a 3br,2bath home it is going to cost around $180-200,000. What about utilities and car & homeowners insurance? Are they sky high there too? What about taxes? I also noticed in my research there might be alot of mosquitos there(was hoping I could leave those pests in Ark.) Will have my RN ASN soon, hows the job situations? Thanks

Having been to Arkansas, White Hall (ugh!) I can say, without a doubt, there is no comparison of Arkansas mosquitos to Colorado Mosquitos. Arkansas mosquitos ate me alive while there. Colorado Springs is significantly drier!

I picked up a refridgerater magnet that jokes about sending more toursists for the mosquitos cause they are so juicey! lol!

I am over on the Western Slope; both areas are arid in comparison. We do have the West Nyle though.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the local area of C.S. for housing etc.

Good luck to you!

I've been tossing around the idea of moving to Colorado too, and coming from the East Coast, a 3 br, 2 bath house for $200,000 sounds pretty good to me!!!! You can't get a whole lot for that around here any more.

in arkansas i have a 3br, 2bath, 1703 sq. ft. home that was new when i moved in a little over 3 yrs. ago, and i had to pay $91,400. So when I see what the houses look like and their sq. footage researching on the computer, i will confess, i have to pick my mouth up off the floor a few times. but still, i am willing to take a smaller home and have to have a house payment to move!

I have been a telem. nurse for over a year now.

I work in the OR.........there are two hospitals here in pueblo.....

I am sure there is room for a telemetry nurse at one or the other. A person should be able to get a nice home here for as low as 80,000-to-150,000 dollars. We are close to the mountains but not in them. Our population is around 100 thousand. Glad to see your interested in our state. Feel free to pm me with any questions. Later Christy

Well let me tell you, I just moved here from the Bay area (CA)!! And housing prices are much cheaper! We bought our 3 bed 2 bath, 2585 s.f.(with full basement where we can add 3 bedrooms and another bath) for $208K Now compare that with our 2 bed 1 bath condo 903 s.f., no basement in CA that we bought for $225K in 2001. Our AAA ins. for my 4 runner and mazda protege in CA was $1921 for the year. Out here, the same coverage for both cars for the year is just over $1,000. As for taxes....property tax on the condo in CA was $2500/year. Tax on our house here in CO for the year is around $1300. Our house payment in CA was between $1200-$1800+/- depending on our int. rate. Out here our payment is $1125. You are an RN so you can make anywhere from over $16/ hr starting....depending on where you want to work. I am a new LPN and my base pay for LTC is $16+a $2 shift differential for working 2-10pm. So naturally you will get paid more. Now you tell me, can you afford it here in CO!?!?
