Can you graduate and go straight to the NICU?

Specialties NICU

Hi,

I am in Los Angeles, and have question: Once you graduate from nursing school (I am working on my pre-req's right now)..how hard is it to get into a NICU? I am not sure I'd be such a great floor nurse for adults.... I love all things medical, babies, and work well under pressure. I'm pursuing nursing with the goal of being in the NICU. I'm just wondering if you have to start on the adult floor and work your way to the NICU? Do they generally take new graduates? Anys stories or advice would be awesome!!!!!

Thanks so much for such a great forum!!

They take new grads. Several hospitals in the LA area are always hiring.

Do you know which hospitals are usually hiring? Can you just have an associate's degree as opossed to a BS? I am getting my associates...

Thanks!!!!

CHOC, Miller Children's, UCLA, Cedars Sinai, Loma Linda, Pomona Valley, UC Irvine... Basically any place with a big NICU usually has a new grad program and as far as I know it doesn't matter if you have your associate's or bachelors.

Specializes in ECMO.

sorry to hijack the thread but here it goes...

i am starting RT school next fall and am very interested in working with the neos. which hospitals in the LA county and orange county area have level 3 nicu's?
