Children's Hospital Los Angeles
Hi..Is there anyone out there that is employed at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles??? I am wondering if it is possible to be an NEW RN and get a position in the NICU at this facility? I am re-searching my options for my next step...I'm considering a program that would tie me to another hospital for a few years because "word" has it that you can't start out in the NICU at Children's.. Can anyone either confirm or deny this rumor? Also, if you work there (and especially in the NICU) and care to share any info about your experience, I would be so appreciative!!! Thanks in advance to all those kind enough to respond...!!!

Nicu Salaries in Los Angeles Area
Hi, I'm wondering if there are any NICU nurses in the Los Angeles/ Ventura area who are willing to share their salaries and any information about the hospital they work at with me? I am in the Los Angeles area, about to enter nursing school, and want to know what my option are for the NICU. Of course loving my job is most important, but God knows you need $$$ to live out here!! Any info would be great! Thanks!! TS

Can you graduate and go straight to the NICU?
Hi, I am in Los Angeles, and have question: Once you graduate from nursing school (I am working on my pre-req's right now)..how hard is it to get into a NICU? I am not sure I'd be such a great floor nurse for adults.... I love all things medical, babies, and work well under pressure. I'm pursuing nursing with the goal of being in the NICU. I'm just wondering if you have to start on the adult floor and work your way to the NICU? Do they generally take new graduates? Anys stories or advice would be awesome!!!!! Thanks so much for such a great forum!!

Confused!!!
Thanks for the reply..I really appreciate it..! I have been looking over the college courses..and WOW, it is going to take a long time! I was forced into the work world at any early age due to family issues and have no college behind me. I am 38, it will take 2 calendar years to do my pre-requists, 2-year waiting period to get in, and 2 years in nursing school! How discouraging that at the YOUNGEST, I will be 44ish years old. As you watch all the newbies come aboard, do you see any in this age category?? I'm trying to hold onto optimism, but it's hard when I think of balancing full time work, children, and school...I don't care about the sacrafices I make, more about the burden on my family. Any other thoughts??? Thanks so much..I really appreciate it!!!

Working in ER/ED
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to this post! I still can't believe how great this site is and how much people are willing to respond and share their experience/knowledge. I really appreciate it. It's helpful to learn all this stuff and get a good idea if Nursing seems right prior to enrolling and going to all the school. Thanks again..I really really enjoyed your response and it was so helpful!

Working in ER/ED
Hi, I am about to start nursing school..I will graduate with an Associate's Degree..can I still work in the ER or do I need to go all the way to Bachelor's to do so? I haven't found anyone who can answer that question yet...I will be taking the NCLEX test (is that right)...?? Also, anyone who does work in the ER, and wants to share stories about their schedule, experiences, etc, it would be helpful. I am open to changing my mind along the way about where I want to end up (I hear it's good to keep an open mind)..but as I start, my goal is ER, unless of course I need a Bachelor's Degree...It's all very confusing! Thanks for any help!!!

Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
Wow, 6 kids and your going for it! I am proud of you! I only have 1, but I still feel guilty pulling time/$$ away from the family to put me through schoo...but you are right. I looked into the field 4 years ago, and if I had just started taking the pre-req classes a few at a time, I'd be done by now with at least those and probably in Nursing School by now..thanks for the inspiration. It's funny, I never think anyone else is too old to do anything new, just me!!! Crazy how we are sometimes our own worst enemies!! I can't thank you enough for the support..Love to hear more of your story and where your at with your studies/how far along/are you enjoying them..?? Thanks...

Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
Hi, Not to be too personal, but can you tell me how old you are? Your strory is an inspiration to me! I am 38 years old with a 9 year old daughter. I am thinking about trying to go back to school to be an RN. I really think I would like to work in the ER. However, I finished High School, but don't have one day of college behind me. Of course I work a full time job too, so it may take me 8 years and then I'll be HOW OLD?? Good Grief....Any advice you have, or more stories of how you love it would be awesome to hear!!!! Thanks for being such an inspiration!!!
