For my overall grade in college I've never gotten an F , my lowest grade was a C , I'm a new student in community college, when we apply for nursing school, they look at our over gpa and grades . I'm still trying to come out with a C grade in this class, but I'm worried about what would happen if I don't. I'm currently taking my first prerequisite . Will I end up having to quit nursing because of one F

I had an F from 20 years ago and I start nursing school in January. That said, I had to bust my hump to make up for that F. I padded my GPA by getting a two year degree in biology. I graduated with a 3.8 in May.

Does the nursing school you are planning to apply to have requirements for the grades you must receive on your prerequisite classes?
The nursing school wants a C or better the lowest gpa you can have is a 2.0 but a 3.0 or higher is preferred . You can take over the class more than once and the highest grade you received will be sent to the nursing school .

Honestly, if there is still time to withdraw, do it. A "W" on your transcript is better than a D or F. Also depends on the subject. If it is one of your sciences, it will be looked at more closely.

No, an F will not ruin your chances of getting into nursing school. If you get a D or F, just retake the class. Good luck to you.

I had a few low grades but I retook some classes so that my preqreq classes would have a high gpa, than i applied to nursing school. Also having a good score on your act/sat will help. Take all the classes you can to get them out of the way, you dont want to take microbio and nursing classes at the same time.

When I applied to nursing school I had 2 Fs on my transcript from about 5 years earlier. On one of my nursing school applications I was able to explain why I received Fs, what I learned from it, and why it would never happen again. I was accepted into both an ADN and BSN program on my first try. The fact that I had CNA experience, a 3.5 cGPA, and a 4.0 nursing pre-req GPA probably helped. You still have plenty of time to redeem yourself!
