Can you believe this commercial?

I just watched a commercial on tv for a topical antibiotic ointment where the little girl says her cut got infected and her mom had to take her to the emergency room! For a cut on her finger? Are they kidding me? I just can't believe they would encourage people to tie up the emergency room for such a thing!

I've not seen it but from what you say, it's not encouraging people to run to the ER for a minor cut but rather a simple scare tactic into buying their brand of ointment. Just for the record though, we did an I&D on a 12yo finger that started out as a simple papercut. No, this isn't the norm and our hospital sees more of the type of patients who come to surgery for their semiannual bath, if you know what I mean.

I can't say that I agree with the advertisers tactics or that people wont' show up in ER for simple cuts but hey, they do that already anyway, right?

I think that's the same one I saw where she was talking about it being a little 'pink' around the edges! Good grief - use soap and water! Some of the doc's at the hospital where I used to work thought that the anti-biotic ointments were over-used.

It's like the commercials years ago about women who were immediately post partum C/S and talked about how the hospital gave them Tylenol and it relieved their pain...........yeah........they just forgot to mention the codeine part of it!

:lol2: OMG, I remember those commercials...after my c-section I was on 3 pills of Darvocet every 6 hours, and it was a full week before I felt like I could cut the dosage down. I was in that much pain.

This is coming from someone who absolutely refuses to take anything for a migraine until I'm lying in a fetal position.

Did you see the one where the young lady is talking to her mom about joining the army and she says to her mom, "The army will help pay for medical school and by that time I will already have experience as a nurse or an Xray technician." Like all you have to do is join the army and like magic you become a nurse! :rotfl: And yes, I TOTALLY remember those commercials about taking Tylenol after childbirth. That is insane:uhoh3: .

Hey, if they want to wait in the waiting room for hours and spend God knows how much for that little cut on the finger, I'm sure the hospital will be happy to take their cash.

I'm still steaming from the $2300.00 bill I got for my daughter's sports physical from the pediatrician's office...they wanted the cardiologist to "clear" her, so a 20 min exam and very brief echo cost twice as much as my truck.

I agree, you got Jipped. Some doctors around here if they know it's for school they will do it for free!

Tazz is right. "Gypped" is a term that originally meant taken advantage of by a certain ethnic group, or "gypsies", but is now used (although it's derogatory to Roma people) to refer to any situation where one feels taken.

Talk about medical commercials, how about all the medications and treatments they tell you to ask your doctor about anymore?

Can't sleep ask for L*^%$#@, can't pee ask for F*&^%$, Can't do the romatic thing..you have 3 or 4 choices now and can get a free sample in the mail too. Heart burn, ask for the purple pill..It goes on and on. The drug companies now advertise on TV so the patients will put pressure on their doctors to order the drug.
