I'm looking into doing camp nursing the summer of 2016! I'm from Minnesota but preferably searching for a camp in another region of the states.
I'll have completed my first year of an AAS program at that point and have also worked as a CNA for the past 3 years, with current CPR certification.
Can anyone list camps that hire AAS student RN's??
Preferably one with room and board/free or discounted tution for employee children?
Thanks much!

Are you an EMT by chance? Most camps only hire RN, LPN, , APN not CNA. EMT as health officer not nurse. CNA cannot practice independently
Some scout day camps will allow a registered adult with a standard first aid & CPR card to fulfill the role of health officer.

I'm not sure what an AAS student is.Some Girl Scout camps do hire nursing students to be a health officer, because it's difficult to find nurses. Search for camps in the areas that interest you and inquire, starting about February. You don't mention the genders of your children, though.I think some private camps do accept nursing students in an intern role, but those would pay little to nothing and would be unlikely to offer free camp to the child of a student.Disability camps often accept student nurse volunteers.Obviously I don't know much about you and I hesitate to dampen your enthusiasm for camp, but based on what you say here, I'm not sure this is the right role for you at this time. I worked independently in the camp health center when I was a student, but I had been there for years and was also an EMT. I was not really qualified (I know now) but did my best. Having a child at camp can be a challenge even for a seasoned professional, and I think it would be very difficult to be new at a camp, new to the health role, still a student, and have a child there, too. Also, you would likely make more money as a CNA.If you and your child really want to be at camp, you might consider being open to a non-health role you might be qualified for, such as being a counselor, arts instructor, kitchen helper, driver, or administrative assistant.Good luck! I hope you do find a situation that is right for you.

As stated above this will be difficult to find because you don't really have any marketable skills or expearence. You have skills and experience but not to the degree you could sell. I recomend you avoid being a "health officer" these positions almost always put the provider in a bad spot of giving medications and medical advice far beyond the reach of their knowledge. My camp would hire someone with your background as a health assistant/driver, this is a job we give to persons with no exprearence and is non clinical. Generally pay is slavish for non professional staff and bringing kids, while possible isn't encouraged, again unless you have a badly needed skill. Generally the only non health professionals I have seen bring children have teaching degrees and are middle management. That being said I work for a camp that is in session for 10 weeks and tuition is around $12000, so shorter less expensive camps may be more willing to barter. Good luck. Please keep us updated on what you find.
