Hi all,
I have posted a few times about my worries on getting into a nursing program and just wanted to share that I got accepted to Watts School of Nursing in Durham. I am so excited and I was wondering if any Watts students (or from other programs) had any advice on how they have gone about financing their education. I never had to deal with financial aid when I got my undergrad a few years ago and Watts is pretty pricey, (about $30,000). I plan to do the tuition reimbursement program with Duke when I graduate but I'm worried about what to do right now. Any advice on financial aid or private loan experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!:heartbeat
Hi!
I am about to send in my applications/essay/references and am very nervous about being accepted. Also, do you think it's too late to make the June start for pre-reqs (assuming I get accepted)?
My DH and I are moving to NC from NJ for me to attend Watts and are set to move next month! I am so excited and terrified that I won't make it in!!!
Thanks,
Lisa

Last I knew they were still filling slots in the July start.
Once your application et al is processed you'll need to send in a background check form (and $) (you'll get a letter with all the specifics). Once that clears satisfactorily then you'll get the magically letter saying that you've been accepted and when you'll begin.
Good luck!!
Hey guys!! Congrats to those of you who got in!!!
I'm finishing up my first semester now so I still remember all your excitement :)
I think they're nearly (if not already) full up for the July class, but dont worry! It's rolling admission so if you didnt get in for next semester, you'll start next January. It's well worth it too! There's a 100% job rate before graduation.
If you've got any questions specific to the school, feel free to email me or post on here!
And yep, the new scrubs are duke blue pants and white tops and they are quite comfortable. The pants are pretty high waisted but I really like the tops at least :)
Good luck and welcome to watts!!
For your pre-reqs they are 2 nights a week from 6-10.
For your nursing classes, you start off doing 5 days a week because you'll have a theory and history class. After the first few weeks, you drop down to four days a week. After a couple of weeks of that, you'll be in skills lab one day, clinical one day, and theory for two days.
And while I had taken some classes at a different college before Watts, they didn't transfer and I opted to take them all through Mt. Olive. Bonus of that? You have some friends before nursing classes start which is great since you're all scared together! And you have to sign up for a group project in the first two weeks, so it's always nice to know someone.
Advice: It would be wise to take an anatomy class at a different community college. I took the pre-reqs last June and, unless the teacher has changed, I didn't learn anything about anatomy and it makes it just a little bit harder now.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you've got any more questions :)
