Calling any Watts School of Nursing Students!!!

Published

Hi all,

I have posted a few times about my worries on getting into a nursing program and just wanted to share that I got accepted to Watts School of Nursing in Durham. I am so excited and I was wondering if any Watts students (or from other programs) had any advice on how they have gone about financing their education. I never had to deal with financial aid when I got my undergrad a few years ago and Watts is pretty pricey, (about $30,000). I plan to do the tuition reimbursement program with Duke when I graduate but I'm worried about what to do right now. Any advice on financial aid or private loan experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!:heartbeat

Mom,

Pretty much just that for the verbal...

Did you think the antonyms/synonyms used on the watts were the same as the ones in the practice exam book that they recommended? How did you prepare for that section?

Not the exact same ones but pretty close... They're pretty easy and you should be able to move pretty quickly... 3 distracters and the correct answer... the spatial relations are a bit confusing... really easy at first then get harder... i'd review them if you've never dealt with them before...

Thanks Jeepinjed!! That helps a bunch. I did review some spatial relations and they are pretty easy if you can understand them and get the pattern. I hope they are similar to the ones on fear's website. The part that I am having the most trouble with is the antonyms/synonyms part....hence so many questions. LOL Right now I copied the words and looked up the definitions to words I don't know....hoping that some of the words in the book show up on the test. LOL :o

not a problem! everyones seems to do fine on the academic portion... then tanks the reading comprehension... I kinda did the opposite but at least i passed the first time... it is a really stressful test... do your best to relax! i don't think it matters how well you do, i think it's a pass or fail kind of test... GOOD LUCK!!!!! :D hope to see some of you in June!!!

Do you mind telling me what you made on the test? I was wondering what score they would accept and I remember you telling us that you barely passed the academic portion of the test.

lol... :o you need a 50% to pass... i got a 95 on the reading comp., and i forget the academic part... but it wasn't pretty... but it was passing... it all get's averaged together... kind of embarrassing!

Well at least you passed and got into the nursing program!!:yeah:

Taking my test February 7th. Anyone else?? I'm actually relocating from FL for my husband's job...figured I might as well start a new career which is a long packed away passion ! Lol

Anyways, how long does it take to get the results of the pre-admissions test?

Tx!!

LadyL963,

I am taking my test in Feb. as well. They say that you get your results by 3 weeks from your test date. So around the end of Feb. for you. I found a website that gives a list of words to study that are similar to/same as the ones in the book. http://www.testprepreview.com/vocabulary.htm They also have practice math problems and reading. I hope this is useful to you. Please let us know how the test is after you take it on next Monday...example: how hard the vocab/math/spatial problems are. Any help to calm the nerves of all of us test takers in February will be helpful!! THANKS!!

Are calculators allowed?

Nope, can't use calculator...aol by hand.

Momofaa, thanks for the link!!!

I will def post here after my exam. I have a few hours between the end of my exam and my flight, so I will post right away while it's fresh in my head. That is if my brain still functions afterward! Lol

Thanks for the reply, a calculator would have made it quicker =)

I'm testing on the 15th so any input after your test would be greatly appreciated
