Calling any Watts School of Nursing Students!!!

Published

Hi all,

I have posted a few times about my worries on getting into a nursing program and just wanted to share that I got accepted to Watts School of Nursing in Durham. I am so excited and I was wondering if any Watts students (or from other programs) had any advice on how they have gone about financing their education. I never had to deal with financial aid when I got my undergrad a few years ago and Watts is pretty pricey, (about $30,000). I plan to do the tuition reimbursement program with Duke when I graduate but I'm worried about what to do right now. Any advice on financial aid or private loan experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!:heartbeat

Hey everyone - its been a wk since i sent the criminal background check, should i expect to hear something next week.

What is the next step after the background check? I would really love to get into the June classes at MOC, and start clinicals in Jan. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated :-)

I was so stressed out waiting for my letter that I couldn't even tell you how long it took. You should hear pretty soon though I'm sure. It would be really nice if you got into the june class because then I would have already met someone i'll be taking classes with. Good luck!!

I finally got my letter early last week (I had problems getting a transcript from one of my past schoools that slowed the process down).

I am going to be starting the pre-reqs in January 2010! Anyone else starting then? I am going to see if I can take some classes early so that I can spread out my workload for a bit longer!

Hey Lizzo - were you trying to get into the June class, or did you want the Jan. 2010 class? I'll let you know if i get the Jan. class :-)

No, I was hoping for the June class, but got got a January start date. I am anxious to start!

We just moved to Raleigh on Tuesday in the hopes that I would be able to start in June...so now I need to find a job until we start the full time portion of the program!

Hey Guys,

Just had my financial aid meeting with Mt Olive. It went well. I wont owe anything for Watts but for Mt Olive I will owe some. So now Im on the hunt for a student loan to pay for the balance and get a little extra for household expenses, the only problem is it get released to the school first then they will send my part to me which would be fine except I was told the loan wont even be received by the school till around Oct? I start pre reqs in June and we would need it before Oct. Anyone have some feedback/knowledge they can share on loans?

Hey Lovee T,

Try Sallie Mae, Wells Fargo, etc. They seem to give really good rates for student loans and you can get them pretty fast too.

Does anyone know how much a new grad from wson will start out making(per hour) with the contract that we sign with Duke? Any info would be great.

Hi,

I have a question about classes at Mt Olive. I know you will have to take 18 credit hours there. My question is about the Math class. It's MAT 120??? Is there a Math before that you required to take. EX. I tested out of Math 70 but not Math 80 at my previous community college. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and take Math 80 some place while I'm waiting on getting into Watts. I feel certain I will get in, just will take some time. I have some classes to transfer but still need those 18 hours at Mt Olive.

yes you are required to take the classes from mt. olive...and it is math121, you do not need to take math 80. if you pass your test and get in that is all you need to do, unless they tell you otherwise. Hey dont worry, everything will be fine so dont waste your money for classes that you dont need. everyone gets into the same pre-reqs.....good luck!

Rnrgrl--

Did you get your start date yet?

Since I will be transferring some classes, I know I will have to take some 'filler' credit hours at MOC. I was hoping could take some classes in September to meet the requirement, but I was told that I couldn't.

I am so excited, I can't wait until January!!!!
