Calling all UK nurses going to US

World UK

Hi everyone,

There seems to be a lot of questions posted about different recruitment agencies. How about you all posting the details of who you are using? It would be a useful tool for all who are thinking of signing up with an agency. Please give details of your experiences and the information you have been given with regard to placement, time frame involved, what the agency is promising you etc etc.....

Tina :)

Be aware that the reason that this happened was because of the large number of PIC country nurses that were taken out ot the equation for about seven months, and the only reason. CA was actualy current to April just two months ago. And I am sure that you won't see that again.............especially with west coast processing.

Thanks everyone.

Will keep fingers and toes crossed for all who are waiting.

I will let you know how it goes.

Janet

Hi All,

I would like to hear from UK nurses who completed a Degree or Diploma in adult Nursing in the UK who have managed to successfully gained a US license and a job as well, can you please in your reply include how you managed to make up your hours as am finding it hard to believe that nurses from UK are able to satisfy the Hours requirement.

Thanks

Cath

If you will take the time to do a search here or just review this thread back a few months you will see everything that we have been talking about, inlcuding posts by other new grads in the UK wishing to work in the US or Canada. You will get much quicker answers to your posts that way.

know the feeling!! Im with OGP and they've been pretty useless. done most of the work myself.... paperwork and documents dissappear all the time, nobody gets in touch... worst decision ever to go with them... started in 2001, still at least 12 months away from travelling to the usa, and probably not to the state i WANT to work in, even then!! aaaargh!!

you would think they would make the whole process a bit easier seeing how 'desperately' they need RN's hey??! a complete nightmare from the start... yes, i had trouble with transcripts from the UK too! and lots of other documents....you REALLY have to be determined to go and work in the USA !!!

Started in 2001 and still waiting I think they have let you down really badly not sure if I would want to continue with them

I'm with Adevia (as some of you know already) and they have placed me in the USA with a company called MAXIM. I have been offered an 18 month contract in the city of my choice (not just the State but the city I want) at a rate that is very competitive (I know because I checked it out on a wage site on the internet). Of course I'm not actually over in the USA yet, so I will reserve judgement until then. However, up until now I can't fault the service I've received.

Adevia have been very helpful and I have had two named people who contact me (& who I can contact) regularly. One pre-N-CLEX & one who is now dealing with the immigration side of things.

I'm sure there are people who have had problems - as with any company but right now I'm happy.

Before I was with a company called IHGi who said they had filed my forms etc - kept me hanging on, saying they were just waiting for my ATT etc. Then, in an email sent during the night when they were on a trip to the USA, out the blue said they couldn't help me unless I wanted to go to NY. Turned out they hadn't filed squat! Wasted 6 MONTHS of my precious time!!

I also interwied for Maxim (through Adevia) but turned them down. They said they could not guarantee that I would be in the same hospital (and unit) through out my contract! The city of my choice yes, but possibly jumping between different hospitals did not exactly seem like a good deal to me......

The person interviewing also asked if I was open to home health care (I have never done home health in my life) if they didn´t have a job waiting for me....

Hello, isn´t that the reason I would use them, to find a job!!! She got really irritated with me when I questioned the home health, apparantly they were worried I wasn´t flexible enough!

Since then I have found another job and am in process of signing a contract of my choice. Direct hire or using an agency dealing directly with the hospital seems like a better deal (but then again, like you said I´m not over yet so who knows?).

Funnily I liked them because of the home health option - thought it might give more flexibility of placements to me. Not bothered about moving hospitals much either, I just want my green card & Florida license. If they mess me about too much I'll jump off the ship - as their cancellation fee is affordable.

Please give the details, steps and persons concern for the forumers to know about it.

Thanks!
