I'll definitely try to get the day program since it works with my schedule. I've been going to truman since last spring and so far I like it :] i spent a good year to do the pre-req courses. what about yourself? I'm so excited to get started! are you taking any course this summer?

I am done with all the prereqs!! as you notice in the Truman acceptance letter, they recomend to take pharmacology in the summer, but I checked the summer schedule for Phamacology for nurses 103 and is from 2pm-5pm I think and I can not do those hours:uhoh3: because I work full-time, and I live in the south side and is too far for me . I checked in Daley for that course and is not offered during the summer (I am originally from Daley). In the letter they also recomend Bio 120 (Medical Terminalogy), but I took it last year. I am so exited :yeah:that I cant wait till August to start :nurse: school.:) How about you?

I'm thinking about taking pharmacology 103 and medical terminology this summer, or maybe just pharmacology. Its a little tight with my schedule because I have to be at work by 4 but we'll see. I'm excited too! I live in the north side, Rogers park area, so its not too far for me. I'm worried nursing 101 is going to require a lot of work so I rather take those courses over the summer, hopefully they'll help :] My name is Gina btw, what's your name? Hopefully I'll see you around or at registration!

Truman is going exceptionally well. I can answer any questions you have, and in regards to the Pharmacology class it is Pharm 104 that they want the nursing students to take. I am taking it over the summer, it is from 8-1050 on Wednesdays.

:yeah:Gonnabeanurse11, I am very happy that you are back to this thread to give us your input on Truman's nursing program. I also want to congratulate you for your hard work, because you seem to be doing great!!:). I have a few questions please::D

1st) So you definitely think that Truman has a good nursing program?

2nd) how are the instructors? Do they prepare you good for tests?

3rd) I took my acceptance letter in person and marked the day session, does that already saves my spot for the day classes or the actual time is given at orientation day when you register?

4th)which nursing book are you guys using now, I want to buy the fundamentals book already, (I want to prepare myself like you did), but I don't know which book we will be using for the fall 2010.

Any books that you think I should buy in advance, so I can start reading over the summer?

6th)Do you think we need to take Pharmacology in the summer or we should take it next summer as you are doing now?

7th)what hospitals are you doing clinicals at? Do you get to pick where you want to go?

8th)Do you always do 7am-1pm Mon-Thur?(day schedule)

I am sorry to ask all these questions, but you were on the same boat last year and probably will understand our excitement and nervousness at the same time.:redbeathe

Yes I think that they have a good program however it is extremely disorganized and they have no respect for your time in terms of changing things last minute etc. I have only had two instructors so far, one for 101 and one for 102 and they were two completely different experiences. The teacher I took for 101, Mrs. Kipnis is the best teacher in the world! I absolutely adore her, please take her if you can you wont regret it. However, the teacher that I currently have is Mrs. Murphy whom leaves much to be desired. I do not recommend her in the least as she is completely unhelpful and refises to answer questions, does not teach, only reads from handouts. If you selected day section you will be in the day section. It is only one clinical day for the first year either tuesday or thursday from 7-1 and class monday and wednesday for 2 hours. I bought all my books in advance cause I was so excited but I would suggest just buying the package from the school. They have a package of all required books that is about 1000 dollars. I bought a crap load of books I dont even need and access codes that they just give you anyway at school, super mad about that. So if you want to buy the books seperately I would just buy them as you use them, you will really only need the fundamentals book, the pharmacology book and a couple others for 101. I have about 35 books total I think, I recommend getting Fundamentals Success which is a great book filled with practice questions on nursing content. I used this to study for tests in 101 and soem of the questions from the book were actually on the tests! I also highly recommend Saunders NCLEX review, the blue book, it is an excellent resource and all of my friends have it as well. I dont think that you need to take the Pharm class now at all! I am taking it to keep my head in the game so to speak because next year is going to be really challenging. Pharm 103 is calculations and Pharm 104 is actual pharmacology and is taught by Mr. Worms who is the Med Surg second year teacher, I think it would be very helpful to get to know him before entering second year but taking it now couldnt hurt either. I have a friend that took it the summer before school started, but I dont think it matters. I have maybe learned 10 drugs this whole first year! You will be fine. Oh and last semester I was at St. Josephs hospital and this semester I am at Illinois Masonic. Next year I am at Illinois Masonic again, St. Marys and Chicago Reed I think. There are tons of hospitals that Truman works with. You get to pick the hospital based on the teacher you choose, like if you pick Ms. Kipnis you will be at St. Joes. By the way, show up for orientation early, you register for 101 in the order you arrived that day! I was the first person there because I wanted to take Ms. Kipnis and was worried she would fill up fast! Let me know if you have any more questions.

For all of you who got into Truman, I want your opinion on what is happening to me. Truman is my first choice b/c of where I live as well as it's reputation. When I got my rejection letter for fall 2010, I met w/ the Asst. dean so I could find out what my ranking was of the total applicants. I was told that there were 179 slots, and I was #192. I was also told that there were 13 readmits from last year (either had to drop out or flunked out the 1st year). Readmits are given priority over other applicants.

According to the ranking grid, I have 85 points (A's in BIO121, CHEM121, MATH118, ENG101, BIO226, plus 5 points for going to the info seminar). I am currently in BIO227 and BIO233 and also have A's in both.

The next day, I was in BIO233 and one of my classmates was accepted into Truman with a lower score as me and she is NOT a readmit.

I went back to Truman and wanted to find out what they say my score was. The Asst. dean couldn't meet with me but called me on Friday and told me they have my score as a 73. Apparently, they did not give me credit for ENG101. He said he would check my application and get back to me. (All pre-req's were taken at Wright and should be in the CCC computers)

Needless to say I am so upset and at a kind of loss. On one hand, I don't feel as though I should lose my slot b/c of a mistake THEY made, but they already sent out acceptance letters (Can you imagine if you got accepted, then later told "sorry, we f'ed up and have to give your slot to someone else!"?) I feel as though that they have to make this right. Maybe it's selfish of me, but I did everything they asked and busted my butt to get accepted.

I am going back to Truman tomorrow and see what they tell me. To me, it's not fair that I should have to wait another year b/c of THEIR mistake. Also, FYI, my girlfriend who also applied for Fall 2010 found out she was not given credit for attending an info session (she may not have gotten in, she doesn't have 226,227,and 233). What does that tell you?

Thoughts?

:yeah:gonnabeanurse11, thank you so much for the info provided. It helped answer all of my questions. I would just like to ask you: What time the classes usually start? I know clinicals are from 7am-1pm ether Tue or Thur, but how about class?. You also suggested the books: Fundamentals Success and Sounders Nclex review (the blue book), do these come in the book package they have for $1000 or they are separate? because If they come together, than I will just wait till Orientation to get everything including the Fundamentals book :). Finally, in orientation day we register for nursing 101, do we have to pay for the whole thing up front? or they give you some kind of waiver if you are on Financial Aid? And the Orientation is in June 2nd from 9am-12pm, you suggest to be there early, what time should I be there? I really appreciate your time and thank you in advance for everything:tku:*wine
