Calling all Grand Canyon University Spring 2014 Hopefuls!!!

U.S.A. Arizona

Hey all! I wanted to created this thread in hopes of finding other Grand Canyon University (GCU) Spring 2014 hopefuls!! I am about to apply for the Fast-track 16 month BSN as a second degree student, either at Scottsdale Healthcare or GCU campus. The deadline for applications are September 15th, 2013... just a couple months away. If you are applying or thinking of applying, please join in and lets get this thread started! :) :geek: :nurse:

Good luck!

Took the TEAS and got a 97.6 on Reading and 100 on Math - very happy with these scores! I am just waiting on my background check results and I think that is all I have left, except for trying not to count the days til mid October!

Way to go MrsBond those are amazing scores!! The wait is going to be aweful for all of us, but fingers crossed that it is worth all the stress in the end :)

Oh my goodness, MrsBond! Those are fantastic scores!!! I am feeling so nervous because all of you have such great scores and GPA, but hopefully all of us get in to our desired programs nonetheless! :-) I am seriously counting down the days til mid-October too! I am starting Chem and Patho this week to finish up the last prereqs, so at least that will keep this girl busy! What was your location of interest again?

Hi Bee and Ablazing-

Thanks, and I was surprised I was able to score so well! (there were definitely questions where I though it was a toss up!)

Bee - I know that every semester is going to have a different set of applicants, but based on what I have observed from people posting their scores for past semesters, your scores are competitve, so keep your chin up! My biggest concerns re: admission criteria are that I am not currently affiliated with one of their partner hospitals, and I screwed up on one of my pre-reqs a few years ago and had to repeat it. Twice. >.

Where are you taking chem and patho? I know Rio can be hit or miss with their courses, but I did really well in their Patho class.

Mrs Bond: you can only apply to one one program. I think you'll be fine. I got in with a 3.2 & no background in the medical field, just a transfer from GCC! Good luck! I'm at banner now starting Monday.

Hi Toy --

Thank you for clarifying that and for your feedback. As of yet, my adviser has not asked me to specify one program over another; I've only been asked what my preferences are. I know they said at the info session that the advisers get a good idea closer to the app deadline re: how competitive the apps are for one location over another, and they have an opportunity to let applicants know whether they may have a better chance getting in at a different location. I suppose I will talk to my adviser closer to the deadline date to see where I have a better chance of getting admitted!

And how exciting that you are starting next week! Best of luck to you!!

Thanks for all the uplifting comments MrsBond! :-) It makes me feel a bit more confident in my scores! I too am not affiliated with any hospital they are partnered with, so hopefully that isn't a deciding factor. I am taking Patho online through Gateway CC, and taking Chm as a hybrid class at Phoenix CC. I've heard Rio is a hit or miss so i tried to find another college for those last two courses. Wish me luck- the last home stretch of prereqs!

I also heard the same thing regarding only applying to one campus- and that our counselor will help us gear towards the right direction since they want everyone to get in. That's a good thing! I know my top preference is Scottsdale, but I am happy with ANY location as I just want to get in!!

Hi Bee -

I looked at the Patho courses at Gateway this semester. If you are taking the internet section, I had that professor this summer for an online healthcare ethics class and really liked her! I am taking a hybrid Microbio class at PC this semester and I am enjoying it already. I've taken online lab science courses through PC before and in my experience they are run pretty well. As long as you keep up with the assigned readings, homework and any extra study resources they make available, I am sure you will do well!

Hi MrsBond,

That's good to hear that you probably had the same online professor and liked her! Thanks for looking :) I do hope the class runs well, as well the hybrid Chem class at PC. I took Micro this past summer and enjoyed it a lot, I learned so much, and so will you. Is Micro your only prereq class left this semester? It feels great to finally be in the home stretch after taking prereqs for over a year!

Hi Bee --

Yes, micro is my only remaining pre-req. I am enjoying it so far, and my professor really seems to love to teach, so I am looking forward to this semester!

I loved Micro, I took it at pvcc and my prof. was amazing!(I-dare say she was the best bio teacher I have had thus far) This wait for application deadline and then results is going to be the death of me!! :) I thought Stats was going to be stressful but really this wait for answers takes the cake!

MrsBond, you will do great! Glad to hear you like your professor- that can make all the difference! And Ablazing- looks like you are in the homestretch of prereqs too with Stats, we can do it!! :-) I know this next month will be anxiety filled...can't wait for mid-October! One month!
