Hi everyone! I am debating starting the EC LPN-RN ASN program. I live in MA and would like to know if anyone else living here took the ASN there and is now working as an RN in this state? I don't plan on leaving my job (I work as a visiting nurse) I would just move up in rank as a case manager one I get my RN, so I don't think I would have any problems "finding a job" since I don't plan on leaving. I'm also wondering how long it typicly takes to complete. I already have about 6 pre-req. classes done twards my RN degree, do therese count? Where are your clinicals?? In the end how do they determine your eligible to sit for your state boards? Sorry for the multiple questions...I have 2 kids in gradeschool and work about 20 hours a week. Thanks for any info you can give me!!!

Hi,

I live in Boston and was in a traditional RN program. Unfortunately I came up short and am now attending EC. I have to take an ethics class for EC and I have completed 2 exams. I am really happy with EC. Clinical time will be performed after you have completed all of your required exams. Once completed you can apply for the CPNE (clinical). It is offered in several states (MA is not one of them). EC can provide you with all the info. You can log on to their website and look at the pdf brochures that they have available. You may have to create and account to do this. Best of luck.

I live in Middleboro, passed CPNE in ALbany, NY which is not a bad ride, about 2 hours on the MassPike right over the state line. There are 2 CPNE sites in Albany; St. Peter's and Albany Medical Center. I am officially graduating on June 19th, will be taking NCLEX at the end of June. Got my ACLS and PALS and IV certification while I am waiting. Passed CPNE on Mothers Day, MAY 10. PM with any questions, and I will keep you up to date on job interviews and feedback. I was and LPN for 3 years in sub-acute care, have a Bachelor's in another field.

Maureen,

congratulations and best of luck on the nclex. What did your fellow co-workers think of EC? Most people I talk to do not know about it. How long did you wait for your CPNE date and where did you get certified for IV's etc.

Thank you,

traci

Once I explained the EC process they thought I was crazy. Most people thought "online school, ya right" and "what about clinicals?". Clinicals were the work I was doing in sub-acute care, you see just about everything. IV course was through the pharmacy that my facility used. ACLS I did at EMRInstitute in No. Attleboro and PALS at CPRWorld in Canton. Two nurses that I worked with tried EC but quit early. It takes some discipline to study on your own time. While I was doing the program, another LPN that I know was doing a brick and mortor LPN-RN. We often compared notes; we used the same textbooks, EC guidelines matched up with her class syllabus almost verbatim at times. CPNE wait times for New York run about 2 months if you are willing to take a cancellation.

Where are you in the program?

Hey

I am 48 and just started working as a lpn 10 months ago. I worked in the Post Office for 22 yrs but needed to make a change. I will be attending Massasoit CC in September LPN to RN evening program. By then I will be 50 years old but I will go for the BSN. Then who know's from there.

Congrats on your accomplishments

Hey Lucy,

I am 52.5 years old, will be starting MSN in Jan. It is tough to keep an old broad down! (speaking of self as old broad)

Heard Massasoit is a great bridge program. You must live nearby, I am in Middleboro. Good luck with school!

Thanks so much! I have had 10 yrs. exp. and feel pretty confident with my assessment skills and feel like online is the only way to go for me. I have 2 kids age 9 and 7 and a husband that works long hours so it will be tough to commit to a program NOT online. Glad to know it's doable!! Congrats on your graduation!!
