Calling All CNA's!

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.

I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over ;)"!

Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.

:welcome: Happy Posting!

Hi everyone. I just got my CNA license at the end of June. I am working towards being an RN, and being a CNA is one of the pre-reqs for my program. Since I had to take the class and pass the state test, I figured I might as well get a job and get some experience. I was just hired as a CNA at a nursing home. I had orientation Monday and today. Next week I start my training shifts. I'm kind of nervous, but really excited to actually being doing some "hands-on" learning.

Hey! I'm Keely and I've been a CNA for about 3 years. I worked on a cardiac floor for a year and right now I'm working at a cancer specialty hospital. I just barely switched floors from surgical services to the inpatient fifth floor and I absolutely LOVE it! I am slowly going through pre-req's for nursing and hope to apply next fall. I am not sure what area I would like to go into but I'm thinking psych or cardiology (I am also a telemetry tech). It will be great to hear everyone's responses! I am so excited for this new forum.

Hi my name is Tammy I've been an CNA/PCT for almost 7 years .I've worked in long-term care for about 2 years but I ve found my nitch in working in the hospitals. I currently work in Shock Trauma and i think anyone who wants to become a nurse can benefit greatly from becomeing a CNA first . It's a thankless job sometime where you feel unappericated but the benefits out weigh the bad things. Also I just got accepted into nursing school as well.

Hello all!

I am an accountant who was terminated from my job for poor work performance. Truthfully, I was burned out and couldn't take sitting at a desk calculating numbers, pushing paper all day, dealing with corporate bull, typing on a computer and performing the same duties with the same people, day after day, month after month. I was always told that I shouldn't be in business.

I am very caring and compassionate and love to work with people. So I decided to become an RN. I took all of the prerequisites that I need to get into just about any nursing program but I was not accepted to a university I applied to last year. My unemployment from my previous job will end in December so I have to find employment by this time. I decided to become a CNA for now so that I can not only get a little experience working with people but so that I can also support my family while going to school.

I am very grateful for this forum because I am going to need you all for support and for help getting through training and things. I've never seen another naked person other than my spouse so it's going to be a new experience for me. The training program I'm getting ready to go through starts out at 7.40/hr and after training it starts at 9. I don't know if I'll be able to support my family on this but I guess I'm going to have to learn to live very frugal for a few years until I finished Nursing School. I'm not going to worry though because I know that God will provide for me and my family.

Well, that's my story. Hope to hear from all of you on this forum.

Hi! I'm currently finishing up my CNA course (in clinicals right now). I plan on going for my BSN next Fall after I complete all the pre-req's and hopefully working in critical care gaining the required experience time before going back to school for my Masters in Nurse Anesthesia (CRNA).

That about sums me up. ;)

:) :) Hi! I've been a cna for about 3 years at a local hospital. I love it! Im SLOWLY doing my prereqs for nursing and am applying for admission into nursing school in the fall. If I go to nursing school in the area I currently live, I will probably stay and be a nurse on the floor I work on now which is med surg/respiratory/icustepdown. All my nurses are great and have such respect for the cna's on my floor! I've been to other floors where that's not the case so I know the grass is most definitely greener on my side! lol!

Hi Yall. I am a SNA at the University hospital on the med/surg floor. I start my 3rd semester of RN school in August. I love working as a CNA and the experience I have gained has been just another added value to the type of RN I will be in May. It is hard work but it is so worth the effort. I know that because I have been a CNA and worked my way up, as a RN I will value any CNA that I may have that works with me. It is truly teamwork. I hope you all have a blessed day. I just worked the 12hr night shift and have to go back in tonight for another. My bed is calling!!!

I am so pleased with the response for this Forum! Thank you for the candid, funny, and informative information we have gained already. Rather then name you all by names, please allow me to do a blanket, "WOW" to you all. I am honored to be a part of this new team on AllNurses.com.

I already see some issues being discussed ;) Thank you for posting!

Let me know if I may help with anything.

I have been a CNA for over a year now, and it has been quite a ride. There are many things that I experienced that I was never taught in CNA classes! I'm looking forward to the discussions in this forum.
