California's 2010 New Grad RN Program

Published

2010 is fast approaching so I think there must be a new thread for 2010 new grad program. I hope the moderators will allow me to post this new thread. I'm currently working at Monrovia Memorial Hospital which is 40 miles away from our apt. We live here in Playa del Rey, near the LAX and unfortunately I don't drive yet. I'm looking for any hospitals that offers new grad program for next year. I'm not even sure if I'm still qualified for a new grad program because it will be my 8th month this Jan. working at Monrovia Memorial. Anyone could share any info..Thanks..

i havent heard from them, hows your interview?

I only sent in my resume and cover letter. I wonder when we can hear from them.

This is actually my third time applying to the residency program. I applied the first time back in Dec, I took the battery test then so my results were still valid from before but I wasn't called for an interview. In April I applied twice the first time, I wasn't chosen no email to bring anymore info or anything. I would check back everyday on the website and see that my second submission was still active (Prospect) but I was getting nervous because I hadn't recieved an email. Well last wk I received an email stating they needed more info from me to complete the application process and that same day I submitted my documents and a few days later I recieved a call for an interview. Sorry so long, I did this to show that I have found out that you have to be persistent when applying to these new grad positions. I believe they are still calling ppl so keep your head up and if you haven't checked online at the status I would or even call and see if they can give you any details. I know the position is no longer accepting resumes so they may be still reviewing the ones they've received. I wish you luck and I hope they call you as well.

I havent heard from them, and i dont know if i should call or what to say, anyhow, how did your interview go?

If I were you I would call they may not return your call though. Last time I applied I didn't hear anything about whether I was accepted or not and the online status still had prospect. I haven't had my interview yet its next week I will be sure to let you know how it goes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks! I will call them...gudluck to your interview!!!

Thank you. It's with Southwest Healthcare Systems in Murrieta (Rancho Springs and Inland Valley).

Gem,

I have an interview with Southwest Healthcare Systems too. :) They told me out of 180 they choose 15 to interview. Wow, I feel special! I hope we get the jobs. I'm sure you will agree that this continuous job hunting is exhausting. I just want to work already. Good luck! When's the big day?

Wow really 15 out of 180 I didn't even bother to ask because I was so excited. I guess we should feel special and I hope we get the jobs as well. I agree with you 100% about this continuous job hunt. My interview is this week but I haven't received an email or phone call back about what room it will be in. When is your big day and did they tell you what room you need to go to? Good Luck to you as well.

Just wondering if you guys would mind sharing why you think you guys got chosen for the interview? Do you guys have an ASN or BSN? Any work experience? GPA? Extra certifications?

I got hired for a new grad job this month -- I have an ASN (prior BS degree in another field, but that doesn't count for much of anything). The work experience in the field has set me apart from the pack, I strongly believe. So far all the students who had hosptial jobs of one sort or another (unit secretary, transporter, CNA, laboratory, primary care/office staff) from my class have gotten jobs. I literally only had a hospital job for the last 4 months of school (one day a week), but it was enough to set me apart from the rest of the students who just did school or had other non-related work experience (server, bar tending, etc).

I realize that now that we are done with school -- we can't go back in time and get that hospital experience.... so if ANYONE is reading this who is still in school, get that experience while you can!!! I think it makes all the difference right now in this tight economy.

I really think my persistence may have added a little umph to my application this time around. When they emailed me to bring my additional documents I went that same day even though its like 45 min away I was determined not to wait so I dressed professionally and took my portfolio to them. Also, before I left I asked a few questions and kinda threw in that I am very interested in the program and that I'm ready to work. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread this was my third time applying to the New Grad program with them. I have my BSN, worked as a CNA I for 5 years, and did a summer externship before my senior year. I don't recall them asking for my GPA but I could be wrong. As far as certs go I have BLS but recently in Feb I took a course to get my ACLS certification.

Actually, they gave me the numbers. It was a nice surprise to know those details. My interview is next week. The waiting is difficult, but I guess I'd rather wait for the interview than waiting longer for the job offer. They told me to meet them at the Administration office at Rancho Springs. Let me know how it goes. :lol2:

I also came in to give them my extra portfolio info pretty quickly after applying. And I'm thinking maybe I did really well on the test? I also feel like my resume, cover, and essay were strong.

On my resume I have: graduated with my BSN, my RN license, several extra certifications, currently volunteering as an RN, previous BS degree in psychology with hospital work experience in psychiatry.

This is the first time I've applied to this hospital, but I've been applying for jobs for 7 months now. Over time, I find that my cover letters, essays, and resumes are better than when I first started applying. I think I'm marketing myself better, and adding more to my resume. It's tough out there. I live in San Diego and this is the first interview I've been offered since a few months ago when I finally started to searching outside of the area. I can't even tell you how many applications I've done. I think it's just a matter of spending all day every day applying. And expanding your search location if you can. I think eventually you will be offered an interview and then a job. Just keep going and don't give up! Good luck! :nurse:

Yeah they told me to meet them there as well when I called today. Last time I spoke with HR she didn't know the room number so she said just meet in the lobby. I will let you know how it goes I'm so nervous.
