California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

U.S.A. California

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

A lot of places are opening their new grad programs after the new year, so things seem to be promising. But, there will be a lot more competition as the December grads will be in force then too.

I would treat your preceptorship as a really long job interview. I wish I had done that and networked with the manager so I could've gotten the job that I wanted and she would've seen my abilities as a nurse instead of me trying to tell her (not a good idea when I'm nervous!)

I hope your right about things turning around :yeah:

has anyone heard back about the glendale memorial hospital new grad programs?

I am been spending at least four hours a day searching and calling employers. There is barely anything out there for new grads. No one wants new grads; it is so sad. The economy is killing all our chances of getting a job. Two years ago the new grads were having no problems. We graduated at one of the worst times. I spoke to the nursing recruiter from UCSD and he told me to not expect too much for at least another year. The major hospitals are getting flooded with applicants and can only take a hand full. Take what you can get. I have lost all hope in getting what I really want. My goal now is to get a job anywhere to get experience and volunteer to get my name known. It is all I can do. :(

Sorry for the bummer post.

"Where there is a will, there is a way" I totally agree!!!!

I am so sorry you are going through all your pain. I graduated this year and panicked after 60 applications...1 layed off hubby and 4 kids. :( i didn't know what to do but stay on my pc 24/7 and turned in applications to everyone that came across me, even to traveling nursing agencies. One of these agencies called me...! :) It was a bleesing...I went to church and thanked my Heavenly Father...left Utah to CA for my new job opportunity...and left a rose in the church I prayed for a nursing job. Don't give up girls! Pray to your desired higher power. Faith is great and hope motivates you to keep moving foward. Good luck in all your endeavors and may all of you find jobs very soon.

Many Blessings sent to you.

hey everybody.

i began this post back in may 2009 and want to continue to thank everyone for keeping it going.

just to update you, i graduated in may 2008 and still no hospital job. i've been to some

interviews, talked to a lot of recruiters, took some classes like pals, acls, and will be volunteering at

my local hospital in the er. i did get a temp job with mollen immunization.

i think snf's are the way to go now. i feel like i have spent enough time looking for new grad positions in hospitals plus i haven't done my skills for over a year and my intuition tells me to start outside the hospital so that 6 months from now or less i will have something fresh on my resume.

i am not considered a new grad apparently anymore. the recruiters are starting to ask me what have i been doing for the last year.

i too am seriously discouraged but will tell you if you can leave california, there are some states that need

new grads. my hubby and i are making plans to leave by july when kids are done with school and have made a list of places we want to be at.

www.fraserhealth - in vancouver bc- if you graduated from nursing school in bc you can submit for new grad program otherwise you can't but look at their job postings for nurses and some listings don't require perhaps the one year of hospital experience. talk to a recruiter, they are so nice and helpful. they accept nurses all year long!

www.merrionhealthcare.com call this guy who is helping place new grads in small towns. he sounds a bit disheveled on the phone. he used to be in pharmacuetical sales and retired but has decided to continue to work and place nurses. he turned me onto "simplyhired" and showed me how to get daily emails about new grad listings.

keep it coming my fellow new nurses! may we brave these storms together!!! through tears and laughter.
