VA Palo Alto New Grad Program 2013

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi everyone,

I want to start a thread for anyone who applied to the VA Palo Alto's new grad program that ended Jan. 30, 2013. Let's keep each other updated during the process! As of today, my application still says "application received". Anyone else hoping to get a job here?

For those who are called this week, know that the official offer takes awhile~ you have to pass screenings, references, make sure you aren't a terrorist, and if you passed nursing school/NCLEX. I am so excited to relocate....but not so excited about cost of living.....Any tips for those who live there already???

Has anyone been called yet? I interviewed for ICU on Monday afternoon and the guy seemed pretty sure I would receive a call right away but so far nothing. Just wanted to see if maybe HR hadn't started yet or what was going on. I am former active duty military officer so this job would be right up my alley.

I am not from the area but my wife is. Palo Alto and surrounding is insanely expensive. If I get this then we will be moving further out and commuting on BART or other public transportation if needed (caltran goes from Bart to Palo Alto). San Jose would be a cheaper option if you do not have kids and aren't worried about school districts. Most East Bay areas are doable.

HR should contact you soon if you were selected...just depends where your name fell on the list to call... there is 15 people they need to contact. Thanks for the advise I am going to try to find something close if possible.

I just got the "referred" email this morning, so I guess some units are still doing interviews....things are still happening people, so don't give up yet.

I did too...scared me to death before I opened it, haha! My eyes are glued to my phone until I get a call or an e-mail :whistling:

I called this morning and the nurse recruiter said decisions were still being made about hiring but if I did not hear back by end of Tuesday that most likely meant I was not selected. So there is still hope they just haven't gotten to me yet.

the referral email is a good sign..... ;)

My referral e-mail wasn't, unfortunately. Boo. It seemed to good to be true! Very happy for all that got positions though - how exciting and congrats! :)

If you were chosen...you should have received an application status change email... status: selected

Hi guys! Can any one of you from previous cohort or those who applied before confirm what the commitment is to this program? Is it 2 years or 3 years? Can you tell us a little bit about the program? Did you like it? Your feedback would be really helpful! Thanks :)
