Hello to all prospective UCLA Nurses!

My name is Matthew and I'm a CSU Long Beach alumnus.

I'm currently working as a Super User RN for the UCLA Health System.

I hope this thread will be able to answer our questions about the application, interview process and a place for any updates anyone receives for the 2013 new grad program.

With that said, I was told by recruitment that applications will be made available in March. :)

Hi Matthew!

Thank you for the update and information!

You are very welcome @NewCaliRN.

Are you familiar with how the UCLA new grad program works?

How does the program work and what is a Super User RN? What unit are you on?

Would you mind sharing your background info (ADN or BSN, GPA, any experience)?

Thank you!

Last year, UCLA hired BSN new grads to help with the health system's transition to a new electronic health record system, EPIC (branded as CareConnect.) These BSN new grads, also know as "Super Users," have been helpinng in teaching the physicians, other nurses and staff in learning the new charting workflows.

Hi Mathew! Thanks for starting this thread. I'll be graduating this May with my BSN and plan to apply to UCLA new grad program for summer 2013. From reading the previous thread, it just sounds so discouraging when you hear about 3000 + new grads applying for 100 positions. I'm also external, applying from Las Vegas.

Hi Matthew ! I will be also graduating in May with a BSN and I am thinking of moving to California...and I plan on applying to UCLA New graduate/nurse residency program. What tips can you give to applicants to help us stand out?

Well, 100 new grad hires would still be great. I'm interviewing for some hospitals expecting only 5 hires. I expect that UCLA will be the most applied to new grad program in the region, especially since they're only hiring new grads once this year as opposed to biannually. They cancelled the Winter cohort because of the implementation of the new charting system.

Hi Matthew,

I got my undergraduate Anthropology degree at UCLA in 2009 and moved out to Saint Louis to get my BSN in a second degree accelerated program. I am definitely planning to move back home and interested in working at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica. Should I start getting my letters of rec now? Is there anything specific that should be included in the letters of rec? How long is the application process open for?

I am also a recipient of HRSA's Nursing Scholarship Program. I asked the nurse recruiter if the UCLA Health Systems qualify and she said she would have to wait for the numbers, but they've qualified in the past.

I have met with the nurse recruiter from UCLA several times and recently this is what she told me regarding the next new grad cohort:

"We haven’t set the date to post the summer new graduate application as of yet. We will update our website ticker in Feb/March with the date. I would encourage you to have your documents ready and be able to apply when it posts. We do require a resume, cover letter, resume and 2 letters of recommendation and transcript."

Knowing the glut of applicants, I would suggest you have all your documents ready to send in as soon as the application process is open. Good luck to everyone!

I also emailed *** *****and she stated that applications will most likely be accepted the first week of march. And as db2xs already stated, check the website ticker in feb for the details and the exact date. I am also a super user and she stated that all super users will get an email when they post (I don't know if we get an advantage being an internal). But from what I heard from a fellow new grad super user who talked with **** she stated that all new grads super users are guaranteed an interview! I am not 100% sure though just stating what I heard. So it is imperative for super users to get in touch with the managers on the floor :) good luck !
