New RN program in So Cal!?!

U.S.A. California

Published

For anyone who might care to share any info on this please do!

I was browsing http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/rnprograms.shtml and voila a new RN program?! Everest offers a RN program?! I'm well aware of the LVN private schools and the public schools with the waiting lists for the RN. This must be a VERY new program, but its listed as accredited. I intend to call them as I'm a LVN student right now, but I had not noticed this school on the website a few months ago. I guess I'll give them a call, my curiosity must be settled.... definitely good news for nursing students in so cal.

:up::coollook:

I heard rumors that Cal State San Marcos will be opening an LVN-BSN program. I dont know any details, but it might be worth looking into!

Specializes in geriatrics.

Hi Vinnie01,

Did you ever start the Everest program? I know this is an old thread, but I was interested in knowing if they ever got regionally accredited and how its going for you.

Thanks for your help.

I just talked to El Camino today, and they said the wait list is 2 years. Last month they told me the wait was one or two semesters. And I know that in December all the people that were accepted were called and told the Dept made a mistake but now have priority on the waiting list. I think they suddenly got bombarded with applicants and there is a wait list now. More applicants than seats possibly.

hi vinnie,

did u study for the psb entrance exam at everest college? i'm going to take it in august for the january session, any suggestions? :bowingpur

cabo--

i am a new rn student at everest and i saw your post. you should really focus on the natural sciences portion. unfortunately, the online sample test isn't long enough and they do not really give you any other options. i personally went to http://www.testprepreview.com and they have a bunch of sample tests. i studied from the "nursing entrance exam" test, mainly the science portion (you don't really need the rest but it doesn't hurt to look). good luck...hope that info helps! :nurse:

which book of the "nursing entrance exam" did you use?? thanks

I was just wondering if you took the PSB test yet? I will be taking it in 3 weeks MI. I was praying you'd be an angel and tell me what's on it...........

Just make sure that they have a preceptorship. If they don't have that give your money to someone else.

hey vinnie did you just study off the psbtestreview website or did you buy a book? and if u did what was that book called? -thanks

]So being that the new quarter starts in January 2009, when do they continue hosting their info sessions?

I'd like to be able to attend the info session and take the entrance exams before the next session starts in July. I'm currently taking my pre-reqs and really banking on getting admitted into the RN program at Everest. :stone

Hello. I was one of the 1st students to get accepted into the program for the January 2010 program beginning in a couple weeks!!:yeah:

My advise is to be a squeaky wheel. There are 1000's of people applying and under 40 spaces each enrollment. I found out when the very first info session would be for enrollment in January. I attended it and then signed up for the first possible testing date for each test. After the interview with the program director, they give you a to do list. I got on it that very day. Passed the tests, interview and background checks and paid at the first available moment I got accepted.

You may want to pick up the material to study for the tests in advance. There was an entrance exam similar to the ACT and then the PSB-RN. They have study books for these. Brush up on your chemistry, biology and natural science for the tests. They allow you to re-take the first test, but chances are - you would lose your spot. The first test is easy. I passed both with flying colors and have been out of school for a few years. (I have a BA in another field)

Good luck to you! They are very helpful and kind at Everest, but they get hundreds of phone calls per day for this program.

hey long i am going on feb 1st.... are u going to the info session?

]February 2nd at 5PM, right? ]Yep, ]I'll be there.

wow you are lucky to have been one of the first ones admitted! i missed the info session this past feb and heard that the next one is in august. what would you recomend me doing in the meantime? should i study for the exams now? do i have to sign up at the info session or is that something i can do right now through like a website? since you have started the program...do you think it is worth it? what would you think i would have to do to get into the program the first round? if you dont get accepted the first part of the year, then do you know if you get priority when they pick students again or is it a lottery? sorry for the questions. i do not even know if you have any of this kind of info but i really want to get my life started in the right direction...thanks for your help
