Mount St. Mary's Pre-Nursing Question

U.S.A. California

Published

I have been lurking on this website for months now and love all of the information I have soaked in from it so I am hoping you can help me out with a few questions.

I am trying to find out the proper way to apply for Mt. St. Mary's pre nursning program. I am going to the apply to BSN program once I have completed my Pre-Req. I have searched long and hard throughout whole website and I can only find info on applying for BSN or ADN program. I am able to find description of pre nursing program but that is it. I am hoping someone who has been through this process can shed some light for me. Do I just fill out the gerenal admission form as a first year freshman? This does not seem right aas this is a specific program geared for BSN program. This is so frustrating. Also, I was told that this program is held at the Chalan campus so I want to make sure I apply correctly. The general admissions form which I found (which does not seem correct) requires an essay. Is this the same for pre-nursing applicants? I weant to do everything correctly so any help would be much appreciated :) thank you so much in advance!

Call the admissions office at the Chalon campus to get these details.

I graduated from there and worked in admissions for work study so I have a few tidbits for you but you need to call them to confirm what I say.

The thing about the prenursing program is that it's just like applying to a regular four year university. It's designed to be your "freshman year" of prereqs and with passing the "prenursing program" you automatically continue into the BSN program which are your 2nd-4th/5th year of college. I assume that you're past high school and looking to apply towards a nursing program so I can't really say how to go about applying correctly since I came straight from high school to attend MSMC.

Just call them. They're super nice. AND there's also information sessions you can attend on either campus if you think talking in person might benefit you better.

I'm currently in the BSN program, but I transferred in last year after completing my prereqs at anther school, so my case is slightly different. But if you're looking to apply as a pre nursing student, you fill out the general application. As for acceptance into the traditional BSN program, it's not "automatic"... From what I hear, pre nursing at the mount is really competitive because the program itself is pretty selective (e.g., only 10 transfers are accepted per year.)

So yeah - you'd fill out the general application and once you're accepted, you have the option of completing your pre nursing courses in either one year or two years, and you apply for the BSN program once you're done with those classes. You should definitely consider going to an info session - a lot of your questions will be answered - and, that will allow you to schedule an appointment with an admissions advisor. Work hard, put your heart into it, and more importantly, enjoy it :) it's an awesome experience. Good luck!!!! :)

Good luck! I'm graduating from the ADN program in two weeks (don't do it, but I hear the BSN program is fabulous!) and heading to CSUDH for my RN-BSN. :-)

Congrats!!! Someone in my phil21 class is graduating from the ADN program too, her name is Katherine. Good luck at CSUDH, that's awesome :)

Thank you so much for you response! Assuming I get in, I am definatly going to opt for the 1 year program and get my pre nursing out of the way. I am sitting on the edge of my seat with anticipation as they make you wait forever to find out the results. I know this is standard but I want to find out ALREADY!!! Again, I appreciate the advice and I will keep you posted.

Congrats! What were the requirements for the pre-nursing program? I cannot find any info on it on how many students are admitted, cost or how competitive it is to get in? If you do not mind answering, what is your educational (GPA), and professional background prior to being admitted?
