How To Speak to a Live Person at the CA Board of Registered Nursing?

I need to speak to someone on the phone at the board of nursing as soon as possible. I need to know the status of a written verification request I sent them last January. I am trying to endorse into another state and they tell me the California verification of my license is holding up issuance of the permanent license. My temporary permit will be expiring in a month and there are no extensions allowed.

What is a good phone number to call to reach someone? I tried the one on the website but I get the "all agents are busy, please call back later" message followed by a click.

Thank you for your help.

It was 2 years ago I've tried to speak with the BON, but calling first thing in the AM used to be the most successful. They're awful. The other thing I've heard that gets a response is writing to your congressman.

It's something that seriously needs to be addressed. Sorry :(

The BRN's office opens to the public at 8:00am pacific standard time. Call at 7:30am and place RoboCalls every five minutes for one hour. People have struck gold using this method after a BRN employee actually answers the phone. After 8:30am pacific standard time, the window of opportunity has elapsed.

In the worst case scenario, you might have to plan a day trip to Sacramento from out of state. Catch a flight to San Francisco Intl. Airport, drive 80 miles east to Sacramento, visit the BRN in person, and your business will be addressed within 30 minutes.

Can you try to email? I had to email my states BON because I couldn't ever get anyone on the phone :/

I already emailed them a week ago, no response. I'm going to have to try the phone methods recommended on Monday maybe. I can't imagine having to fly out to California from New York for something like this! And it's not like I'm trying to get a California license, I'm trying to get something that I can't even get in hand anyway. It will have to be sent directly to Connecticut's Board of Nursing. So frustrating! No more licenses that require all licenses verified! Only home state which is thankfully Nursys.

I am sorry, but based on historical anecdotal accounts, I am afraid that your best bet is to make the trip to Sacramento. Best not to go on a Monday or Friday. Try to arrive at the Board's office first thing in the morning. When you go in person, short of having security escort you from the premises, they have to deal with your concern.

UPDATE: I called the CA BRN just now. Started calling at 755am Pacific Time, pressing 0 on answer and got the 'currently closed' message that first time and every time I redialed ... until about 807am when I got the 'all agents are currently busy, please hold' message. Was on hold until 818am when I heard ringing and someone picked up. Asked them about the status of my verification request, gave them my license # and they stated that the request was mailed to CT last Monday 3/30. Progress!! :D

So I guess now there is a waiting game with the state of CT to issue the permanent license. CT tells me that it usually takes about a week or so after receipt of the verification to issue the perm. My current temp permit is good until mid May so I have to assume there wont be a problem falling out of licensed status before then. I just need a signed copy of the perm license to submit to my agency for a new travel assignment I am starting next month.

Will update again when CT finalizes. I'm about HALFWAY closer to relief that I wont have to fly to Sacramento. Lets hope I don't have to at all ... at least for this (I might consider an assignment there later on if the contract is decent tho).

Thanks again for all advice and support!

Thank you for your polite and timely update on your status. I am sure it is helpful information for persons in similar circumstances, but will be missed by others.
