Home prices have dropped a little. I wonder how far it will go.

Foreclosures are up also.

If people are so entitled to speak their opinion, then lizz is certainly entitled to speak her's as well. It is way out of line, not to mention unreasonable, for you to think you have the right to tell anyone what they ''should'' be fine with. Lizz isn't the only person who has tired of the California bashing, either.

when i said she should be fine with it, i was referring to the right for people to have their own opinion. sure it may be annoying to hear negative things about a place you love to live. it would be a big stretch to say cali is all bad and there is no good here. it would also be crazy to say the vise versa. if u look at the news and do research about the median home prices and the percentage of the residents that live here and can actually afford to buy a home, it is sad. and these aren't just welfare cases. people such as teachers, nurses, rad-techs, and more hardworkers just cannot buy a decent home. for most people, $450,000 for a 1900 square foot home in the ghetto is not realistic. there are condos going for similiar prices. maybe im just a city-dumb country boy, but it seems unreasonable to me that only 6-15% of the residents here can afford a slice of the american pie. for instance here are a few articles about the situation:

Are they also california bashing?

Maybe it would be wise to not read the posts that people use to vent their frustration about the situation if it upsets you all so much. it just seems so petty (especially due to the fact that we are educated people and not gangbangers who are willing to kill when somebody says something negative about where they live). It sounds like some people try to bully others into keeping their mouth shut if there is something negative to say about california.

We visited back in May this year. Thought the real estate prices were very high. Was surprised to learn, from the tour guide, that 70% of people in San Francisco rent because they can't afford to buy a home.

Here in Australia, we have similar house prices in Sydney. It became out of reach for most people to afford a house. Where we live, in South Australia, the prices remained steady for many years. Our house only doubled in price over a 16 year period.

What we saw of the west coast during our visit, was fabulous! And..... we covered thousands of miles!

You continue to contradict yourself. If she should be ''fine'' with people speaking their opinion of what a terrible place California is to live, then other people should be ''fine'' with it if she decides to go into their forums and announce what a terrible place their states are. You can't have it both ways. There's no bullying going on here, unless we count you saying people ''should keep their mouth shut''. Your claim that anyone is willing to kill over this is as inflammatory as it is preposterous.

California is not a good fit for everyone. Thank you, God!! It's a good fit for me. If it's not for you, well, what can I say?

There is more to life than real estate, which is the original topic.

Yes, I've lived in Texas. And yes, I've lived in Lousiana. Man ... don't get me started on Louisiana, I grew up there. Katrina happened for a reason and anybody who's lived there for any length of time knew that disaster would happen.

Some of us have done really well in California. I have a cheap mortgage, my house is worth double what I paid for it just three years ago, and I'll be making $100K a year with full benefits when I graduate. And, let's not forget ratios.

Yep ... California is a real nightmare.

btw texas is a great state for nurses. you are speaking of horror stories about their ratios and blacklisting. trust me i know

As far as the problems in Texas, nevermind what I said. All you have to do is read what Texas nurses have to say:

Doesn't look too nurse friendly to me.;)

Of course people have a right to their opinion. But, until now, I've been holding back on mine as a courtesy. Well ... I'm not going to do that anymore.

Note to Mercyteapot: We knew this was going to happen, didn't we? They can dish it out, but they sure can't take it ... can they?

That was my original point. If you're going to criticize where we live ... even just by sticking with the facts then ... I will do the same.

Funny how some people don't seem to like it when the shoe, so to speak ... is on the other foot.

it is different when you begin to bash other places to be vindictive because someone has a negative opinion about california. its like you are taking it as a personal attack when someone is just venting. besides, most of the people that are venting about california live here or have been here for an extended amount of time. so its not like they are just speaking blindly. btw what part of lousiana did you live because there are places that even lvn's make a great living. oh yeah i can take it when the shoe is on the other foot. notice i didnt make a remark when you made your remark about katrina.

the post you picked from texas is just one thread. there are many many positive ones on the same board.

like i said, it seems that you take anything negative about california personally. is it really that hard to belive that california is not all some people expected it to be?

and to mercyteapot, i didn't contradict myself. you just have to have the ability to take what i said into context or if you'd like i can break it down into a more elaborate statement. just to sum it up it is different to begin trying to find negatives about certain places because someone vents about california. that just seems to tit-for-tat. besides most of the posts in this thread did not put california down at the expense of any other specific states (for instance is better than california). that should be part of the criteria you use to determine if people are really "california bashing"

So, I take it you are going to offer us no back up that someone is actually willing to kill over our opinion about California? It was an insulting thing to say, not to mention an outright lie.

Yep. Gee willikins, I sure do hope no one in those other states is willing to kill the way our little friend claims that Californians are!

just to add me 2cents, i would love to live in ca, that's why i'm moving there after i graduate. everytime i tell someone my plans they say "it's so expensive to live there and i would never want to do that." it makes me mad too because they act like once i leave tx i can never come back! i keep reminding them, this is something i want to do. if they are going to help pay some rent, then i they can have something to say. other than that they can "shut it!"

that's all

if i had a nickel for everytime someone told me its to expensive to live there and i'll never survive.. i'd be rich! then i also say the same thing its not like moving to california is a death sentence.. i can move back home if i very well please or another state for that matter. i think some ppl are maybe just jealous that they didn't move away from their hometown while they were young and had the chance. they didn't take any chances and just stayed in their comfort zone. sometimes you have to take chances ya know?

Yep. I came here in 1986 with a grand total of $400 to my name. It is a grand place to live. I am sure other people feel the same way about their homes, and that's great. We don't have room for everyone here, anyway!:p

You took my statement out of context again. read it carefully for what it says, not what you want it to say. i never said there are any killers on this board. just read the statement for what it says.
