California and licensure for both PN and RN

we are seeing more and more posts regarding california and getting results.

for pn it takes on average 4 weeks to get your results, until you get your results via snail mail and pay for your license you will not see your name on the website and will not have a license issued. sometimes it may take longer to get your results if there has been a large influx of applications and test takers. if you find you have to contact them because you haven't heard anything they will usually indicate on what date they are processing.

for rn you will only have a license issued if you have a ssn and have given it to the brn. if you have no ssn then you will not see your name on the brn website. if you inform them you have a ssn after your application is sent in or after you have taken the nclex then give them a few days to up date their files on you. it takes approx 3-10 days to get your results online (as long as you meet requirements and have a completed file) although can take longer. do not ring them until at least 2 weeks has gone passed as the more people ring means a delay on updating yours/others file. majority of times you do not hear anything is due to a incomplete file as california allows you to sit nclex in most cases with a incomplete file, they will not release your results until it is complete. we have had members contact brn to find that there is a problems with their fingerprints or their transcripts haven't arrived so can easily be something simple enough to sort out.

any questions regarding california please post here

if you are a foreign trained nurse and applied to california and have no ssn then you will not see your name on the website and if you do not provide a ssn within the 3 years then your file is destroyed which does include your nclex results. if you are caught up in retrogression and your 3 years are nearly up then we suggest you apply to another state for licensure by exam and arrange with ca to forward your nclex results. you will still have to meet the bon requirements for foreign trained nurse so do not leave this to the last minute.

I have a question sir, how many days before you can check the site if you pass the NCLEX or not? And how will you check it on the site? i have a SSN. Thank you in advance for your response.

Results will be available from 3 days onwards and you can check via the link I gave in my post and then permanent license verification which is found on the left hand side. This is only available for RN if you have taken PN then you have to wait for a letter which is usually 4 weeks

I see, thanks again for your reply maam, Im now losing hope that I passed, because I took my NCLEX last October 28, and my name did not appear on the system. I'm still hoping for the best. God bless!!

Until you get it in writing I wouldn't give up. 4 days doesn't mean anything as results can take anything from 3 days onwards. Again all depends on your file

Hi! Is there any other way of verifying results from CA NCLEX takers without SSN, aside from waiting for the mail to arrive?

Sorry, but no. They actually do not issue a license to you without the SSN#, so the only way to get your results is by snail mail and the letter that they send. It is sent by regular airmail and not by courier. Depending on your locale out of the US, average wait time is about a month.

Best of luck to you.

Anyone who knows how many retake for exam is allowed here in CA?

California is one of the few that permits unlimited retakes of the exam.

Sorry if this is a little redundant, but I've read A LOT of posts now, and am still hoping for some clarification (maybe just because I'm freaking out, etc, all the stuff I can tell everyone goes through after taking the nclex).

Anyway, my question is this. I finsihed my degree last summer out of state, and took my nclex-rn exam a week ago in California, I've confirmed that my file is complete, and I'm still not showing up on the "License Search for Registered Nurses" search via the link above. I'm more or less assuming my life is over (too dramatic, I know, I know) and that this must mean I failed. Is there any reason for me to hold out hope?

It can take anything from 3-10 days to show up on the website. Some have even received snail mail notification and nothing showed up on website. Hang in there and until you receive something do not give up hope
