California Licensing after NCLEX results

Published

I am hoping someone can help me with this. After checking on the forum and the bvnpt.com website, I could not find the answer.

Is it possible, after receiving NCLEX results that you've passed to drive to Sacramento and pick up your license? I really don't want to wait another month to get a license, after graduating in July.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Has anyone picked up their lvn license in person in California?

It is not possible as the licenses are actually produced in another state and then sent from there. They are not done in Sacramento.

Not sure if you understand how things are done with the LVN license in CA or not. You will not get your results for almost a month if not longer, and if you pass, then you will be given a bill to pay for the license. That is when they will send out your information to have the actual hard license created for you. You will be able to see your license number on their site once the number has been issued to you. But it will be sent directly to you and not from the office in Sacramento.

Unfortunately, there is nothing that you can do to change this. And not sure if you are aware of the fact that you are looking at about a month before you will be sitting for the exam as well.

Did you try to call the Board of Nursing? They are very helpful and if you can explain your reasons, they might give you a good advice.

CA does not have a BON, they have two very separate depts that handle the RNs and one for the LVNs.

The issue again is that the license is not even manufactured in CA, but in Ohio if I remember correctly. So there is no way for it to be picked up at their office.

There is no advice to give, one needs to wait for it to be sent to them in the mail. Especially if it is the LVN license, they handle things for that completely different than any other state.

This is something that is very well known in CA about how these things are handled. And there is not any way to change any of it.

Thanks to both of you for your responses. I went ahead and mailed my letter with the license fee when Suzanne said there was no way to pick it up. I didn't want to bother them if it could be helped as they are very busy and it would take time away from processing someone elses paperwork.

Patience is a virtue!:lol2:

Thank you, Susanne. You are right, of course.

I think, it's just me. I would prefer to ask questions everybody I have known and then I ask the primary source for additional information. Because sometimes there might be a solution that nobody knows about except "them" :).

Thats true, Romantic. I try to research everything to the point where everyone wonders where I come up with so many answers. Also, I did phone the board, but the line was busy for a long time before I could get through, then I came across Suzanne's answer while waiting for them to answer, lol. Didn't want to disturb them anyway.

Sometimes I find myself :deadhorse so I am just going to relax and wait.

Thanks for your advice:)

Well, come to find out, all my friends have driven up to Sacramento and have a tempory license :( This is a learning experience. I should have called the board and asked, but the phone line was busy.

Everyone has asked my why I didn't do that.......... And now they are working and making money while I sit here and wait for I don't know how long. I mailed my check in on October 28th, and it still hasn't been cashed:(

Wow you learn something new every day. I had no idea. So sorry it went this way for you. Really, I would contact your school because they should be able to pass this knowledge on to the next set of students.

I am a new LVN and I really took my time in getting my first job but it has all worked out so well. And then the hospital I am working at hired my classmate and she already had experience as a nurse in LTC and asked to be off orientation because she already knew her job. And I am still on orientation because I needed extra time. But it's not a contest I remind myself but I do wish to move forward so I understand how you feel.

My license came in the mail just 3 weeks after I sent in my check so chin up. Start looking for that first job because it might take a little bit to find it. You know you already passed. :heartbeat :nurse:

Thanks for the kind words Faeriewand. I got hired in LTC, just waiting to get my license. I called the board and they said they just cashed my check so it will probably be another couple of weeks, or less, hopefully :)
