Hello all. Okay, so I am now starting to psyche myself out. I have taken the TEAS, and am taking my last general ed class next fall. I made a B in BIO 201, and am most likely going to make a B in BIO 202. I am taking BIO 220 in the fall and am pretty confident with my class schedule that I will be able to make an A. I also made a 64 in my TEAS, not good I know, but I am going to retake it because I KNOW I can do better.
So, I guess I am trying to say that is there anyone who has had to take the TEAS and gotten into the RN program at Calhoun? How many points are needed? I know that it all depends on who is applying and the points they have, but I am just curious. I am starting to get really nervous about not being able to get into the program. Any thoughts or advice? Anyone in the same boat?
Oh, and I also have a 3.45 GPA...is that going to change things for me?
Sincerely,
A Nervous Wreck

I'll be starting at calhoun cc this summer, and while I don't know from experience, here is how it was explained to me.
You need 201 points to get into the Nursing program. You get as many points from the TEAS as your grade ( 68=68 pts. 85=85 pts.)
You get 8 points for every general class completed, you get an automatic 3 points for just being a student.
I might have this wrong, but I believe classes like BIO 201 & 202, PSY 200, and a couple others give points on a graded scale. an A = 30 points, B = 20, and C = 10. I'm assuming anything lower means you suck and won't get any points!
I hope this helps, and I hope to run into you in class. Maybe we can be study buddies or something. My wife makes awesome spring rolls, great brain-food!
Hello! Thanks for replying! I found out today that you can attain a maximum of 201. You can earn up to 100 points for the TEAS, 90 maximum for your BIO 201, 202, and 220. And then 3 extra if you are a Calhoun student, and 8 total points for having your basic courses finished before entering the nursing program. Here is a link with the application for ADN program which lists the point system info: http://www.calhoun.edu/Health/GeneralNursingApplicationPacket.pdf
I have one more core class for the program and that is Microbiology, BIO 220. I will be taking that in the fall and hopefully be starting the program in the Spring. Fingers crossed anyways! :) Good luck to you! Calhoun is a wonderful school, and the Biology department is amazing!

Don't stress too much. All any of us can do is our BEST. If you don't get in the first try, try again. Your GPA doesn't matter much. They are mainly interested in your A&P I and II scores, your Microbiology score, and your TEAS test. Having all of your core work out of the way will help. I talked to one of the instructors this week and she said not many people have all the core requirements out of the way when applying---an automatic 8 points for you (not per class, but 8 total if you have taken all of the courses without NUR in front of them:clown: Try REALLY hard to get an A in micro. You can do it!

I wish I knew what their cutoff is for points. I'm applying for the fall and I have 159 points.. I got a 78 on the TEAS, but the 2 B's I got are killing me. Does anyone know how long it takes them to mail out letters?
Good luck to everyone!

Last year we knew the last week in June or the first week in July, depends on where you fall in the alphabet.

Calhoun seems to have been getting better n better each year with their NCLEX pass rates per the AL state nursing board. 79% just 3 years ago.. 92% a year ago.. consistent improvement each year. Based upon that, I would enroll in Calhoun if it were in my neighborhood for sure. too bad its at least 2 hours away in rush hour traffic ;-(

The cutoff changes every year depending on the caliber of students that apply. The first year I applied for the FT ADN program, I missed the cutoff my 1 point. The following year, I applied for the PT evening program which is more competitive and made it in after I repeated a class I made a B in for an A. I don't know what the cutoff was, but I made it & that was the main thing.
You should be okay!!

Hi, I am also interested in trying to get admission into Calhoun's nursing program. The comments have been very informative. I hope this question isn't too personal but for the individuals who have gotten in to the program, what were overall points? I'm kind of nervous about mine but I will say that it's above a 140 but below 165. Do you think I might have a chance:confused: I know it depends on the other applicants.
I was denied into the day program in 2009 with 153 points, the cut-off was 154. When I got in last year, I had 198 points, so I knew I was good. My 2009 application was without Micro.
naijausa~ You still have a chance, dont count yourself out yet!
thanks VSBlonde
