There have been rumors here and there about VC not being accredited. Someone posted earlier this year that they got their degree there, now can't use it because they're not accredited and she wasn't even allowed to take the NCLEX. I may be wrong, but worth making sure for anyone who reads this thread.

Hey Relysh-I looked at my papers again and it does appear that you can take a CPR class in the first week of August and be ok. I think you just have to have it before 1st day of class. fwiw, Uniform Corner has 20% off the calhoun uniforms right now so top, bottom, and lab coat will be about $65. Anyone know if us part-time folks have to have that whole entire textbook list? or does that just apply to the day-time crowd? Seems like the last half of the list would be what we need. (Maybe VS blonde can answer this one;))

I witnessed my sister-in-law give birth last weekend and my stomach was in knots for 3 days, lol. I have given birth naturally to 5 babies and epidural with 1. Watching the pain involved day after day, I think, would be birth control:D Now I just have to stay away from the babyas much as possible, hehe.

evening program for me, too. July 28th3pm is registration, July 19th is orientation 4:00pm(thanks for pointing that out Relysh) I called and asked a question today and was told that we HAVE to have the CPR w/Healthcare Provider by the time we get to registration. I have CPRw/AED and it's not good enough--boo. So I signed up for the July 14th class.

Someone during the webinar did ask if there was anything to do to get ready for the nursing program (brush up on topics, etc.) and she said no. And also, she mentioned that if you didn't have all the general ed. coursework out of the way, try to take it in the summer because if you don't get in this time and reapply in October, if you waited till Fall to take anything, it wouldn't count because you'd only be through with half the semester.

I don't see a place to message either of you. So I'll list some of the stuff I jotted down that I wasn't totally aware of. Maybe it wil help. 1. Entrance scores are said to be higher this year than last year (last year or last semester was the first time that the TEAS V was given). 2. This one I overheard --- there may be over 1000 applicants this go round. 3. Be aware that there will be some extra costs: testing fees, 110 per semester uniforms approx. 340 nurse pacs 135 student respons dev. 70 drug test 71 insurance 10 annualy cpr (annualy) 35 books approx. 800 (this is a first semester cost for books for traditional day program she said so I assume it will vary per semester) Also, about $400 in different graduation and NCLEX testing fees. I think a grant would cover books but not any of the other things I listed. 4. Uniforms are required even for first semester of part time evening (even though there are no clinicals that semester). 5. All white, leather shoes are required (she said should be safe buying a "nursing shoe" that is all white.but no skechers or shapeups, etc. 6. If you want to take other courses along with the nursing, she said not to do it the last semester of the program (LPN, ADN, paramedic to RN, etc.) She also said it probably wouldn't be wise first semester of traditional day. She said all the other semesters, especially with the evening program should be fine. 7. The evening program she said probably required the most self-discipline on your part (because the lectures are online and you have to be prepared before you come to class) 8. 100% of students in the last 3 years, all programs have found a job. 9. background checks are done after you are accepted and start classes (will probably be at an unexpected time) 10. If you made over a 70 on the TEAS, she said that was really good (though there were other factors, such as if you had B's or C's on the a&P's and Micro scores). She didn't have any cutoff scores or anything and it's all a waiting game that should end with a letter by the end of the first week in July. Everyone will get one, whether they are accepted or not. 11.Clinicals are at Crestwood, Huntsville, Athens, Madison, and Cullman. 12. 48 are being accepted into the evening program and about 100 in LPN and around 140 for day ADN. I think that's all I jotted down. Hope that helps. Wish we could chat with VSBlonde, LOL! I'm sure she could answer all this and more. I do have a question for VS blonde: 1. I am considering taking Statistics and precalculus algebra in the Fall (with assessment and pharm-assuming I get in) VSBlonde, what's your advice on that? I have A's in a&p's and micro and a 3.9 something on my other pre-req (but 5 kids, too:). Would that be too much of a load? 2. And, do people sell their books when they are done? or is it kinda necessary to keep them for reference in later courses? I just got my chem book for summer for $25. It's $145 in the bookstore. I like to save when I can:)

I've applied myself. I'm actually waiting at my computer for an info webinar by the Head of Nursing dept. (It's at 4:00pm today.) Anyhow, I should have lots of answers for you after that. I talked to someone that graduated from there last year and she gave me some book ideas. I do know that some people work full-time and do part-time ADN. That's really what they have the part-time program for. Here's fingers crossed we both get in;). (Inbox me later if you want my phone# and I'll give you the info I got from the webinar.)

Don't stress too much. All any of us can do is our BEST. If you don't get in the first try, try again. Your GPA doesn't matter much. They are mainly interested in your A&P I and II scores, your Microbiology score, and your TEAS test. Having all of your core work out of the way will help. I talked to one of the instructors this week and she said not many people have all the core requirements out of the way when applying---an automatic 8 points for you (not per class, but 8 total if you have taken all of the courses without NUR in front of them:clown: Try REALLY hard to get an A in micro. You can do it!

Though I don't have a book recommendation, I have 5 babies so I want to suggest that above anything else: Tell her to remember that it is HER body and she can refuse anything she isn't comfortable with if she knows it's not necessary for her or baby's safety. IV's, Pitocin, unnecessary tests, etc. For instance, I nursed my babies while they were getting their immunizations. Almost NO crying whatsoever. Shocks nurses every time. (though they still won't recommend to other mothers to do the same:confused:)They always say to lay the baby on the table (and pin their legs down) and there's no reason for that at all. I have also refused fetal scalp monitoring when they were about to do that (with no reason, no heartrate problems), amnio, and unnecessary IVs. And asked for the nurse to let me get pictures and spend a little time with baby before they put in that nasty eye junk. Always nursed baby before they took them to nursery for a bath even way back years ago when they usually allowed only a few minutes with the baby. I just made them wait. It's MY baby. So, in short..... have a lot of Mommy guts, follow your instincts, and STAND YOUR GROUND is my advice (a little harder to do for a first-time Mom-take it from me (it took me a while), but do-able.) I'll be taking Intro to Nursing and Pharmacology. I need to take chemistry or statistics. Which would be easier? Keep in mind I have 5 children, 2 of which are under 3. Studying conditions are not always optimal around here, The program is a hybrid adn broken into 7 semesters. I'm just needing to get the statistics and chem out of the way for the future rn to msn path.
