Calhoun Comm College Fall 2015

Published

We've got several months until application time opens for Fall 2015. I assume it'll open sometime in May, maybe April if we're lucky! Does anyone already have it on their brain like I do  Hoping to make it in the program for Fall 2015 & would love to chat with some other folks that have ants in their pants too!

Thanks for your input!!! I got three books today for 170. Med surg, health assessment, and fundamentals book. I am going to wait and see what else we need at orientation. Also, Athens-Limestone Hospital does CPR classes if anyone wants to stay in Athens.

Remember to join Calhoun Nursing Mentors and Calhoun Nursing Students groups on Facebook. I have seen a lot of textbooks for sale and testing tips on there. I am waiting until orientation to see what they say about books. Anyone else on here that will be in the part-time evening program? (I've got to keep my day job while going through this career change!!) See you all soon.

Richard I will be PTE evening as well. I'm Brandi. I have to keep the day job for now.

Hey Brandi! Find me at orientation (I'm sure I will be easier to spot since there will be fewer guys in our class.) Looking forward to meeting everyone. My pic on here is also my facebook photo. Richard Sharp in Huntsville.

Hi Everyone! I am so happy to have finally found a thread going for Calhoun's Fall 2015 nursing students!! I have received my acceptance letter to the LPN program and couldn't be more excited to get started. I wanted to take the traditional daytime ADN track but after the changes to the scoring process and bombing my Teas Test in the subject areas that counted the most I felt a bit discouraged and made ADN my 2nd option and LPN my 1st option when applying. I am just happy to have my foot in the door and to be moving closer to my dream regardless of the path it takes to get there. Is anyone else entering the LPN program?? I look forward to chatting with everyone and sharing experiences as we embark on our nursing journey. :)

Congrats LadySmall! It doesn't matter the path taken as long as you get there!

OK so here is my update since I got accepted. I bought my Pharm book, health assessment, calculate with confidence, Taber's and Davis drug guide all for a whopping $155 from students on the Calhoun Nursing Mentors Facebook page. That page is super helpful! Its packed with info from what to expect and how to get a JumpStart as freshmen to how to best study for HESI exams. My next step...dreaded immunizations! I have to get EVERYTHING!! CPR cert scheduled for first week in June. Whew! What's everyone else been up to?

Brandi, how do y'all know which books we'll be needing? Sounds like you got your ducks lined up well. I have got all my medical stuff except for the 2nd part of the TB test & I need to renew my CPR license. I can hardly wait til our orientation to get more info! Can't wait to meet everyone also!

Congrats LadySmall!!!

Okay. So through the Calhoun Nursing mentors and people at work, I've just about gotten all the books I need. Right now I just have a few immunizations to get and I should be ready to go! Excited! Wish the orientation was sooner because I'm ready to meet everyone and get more info! By the way, I'm Danielle. Congrats again LadySmall!!!

I looked at our bookstore online and got the book list for 103 and 104...I'm PTE so that's what I'll need for first semester. I made sure to get the latest editions but I don't think one edition off will matter much. For instant my Tabers guide is a 21, bookstore has the 22nd edition listed but how much can a drug guide change from one editon to the next? Everything else is current.

One post said to go ahead and start looking at the calculations book because 70% of their exam was on dose calculations alone. I'll probably start making note cards on formulas at some point before class.

Hey Danielle! I'm Kassandra! I don't have a facebook but I reckon I might should make one then. Will y'all be working while going through school? I'll be continuing working myself.

Yes. I will be working full time, but I work 12 hr shifts on the weekend Fri-Sun, so I'm hoping that we won't have classes on Fridays or I will have to drop down to just two days.

I will be working full time as well. Who all is in the PTE program besides Richard and I? Someone suggested that we start a Facebook group page to help stay connected and assist one another since we won't be on campus as much as traditional day students. This way we can share study questions, hopes, dreams and fears lol! I think that is genius! The day group should do the same as well.
