Calculator for General Chemistry

Published

Will I need a calculator for General Chem? If so, any recommendations? I have a couple of basic ones at home but none that will do scientific notation.

Yes, you will need a scientific calculator for gen. chemistry. I also remember using it for calculating ph conversions. Its a good investment for your other classes where math is involved. I have a Texas Instuments TI-83 that I got over 10 years ago. You don't have to get the most expensive one. Just make sure it does scientific notation, logarithms and exponents.

I have a TI-84. Just got it a few days ago. I wish I had it when I first started Chemistry, it would have helped me a lot for the metric conversion problems.

TI-83, but any scientific calculator should be sufficient. Anyways, at my schools we can't use graphing calculators on our exams (we have to use the schools stock sci-calculators), so I would just get one of those cheap ones. However, if you're going to eventually take stats then I would just get a graphing calculator now.

Already had Stat so I don't need to take that. But I definitely want one that will do scientific notation and metric conversions. Staples had one on sale this week that I thought would do the trick but no metric conversions. Beh.
