Anyone planning on applying to the Spring 2011, CSUSM, accelerated ABSN program? Just wondering if there is anyone else out there:)

Excellent!

I have those.

Thank you so much.

got another email saying we'll be contacted by v.m. (didn't put name due to forum rules) in the next few weeks regarding applying to the school.

You know I'm still on the fence about this one, but keep in mind that the clinical sites are all over SD county. From their website (www.csusm.edu/nursing/clinical-partnerships.html) it looks like 2 are north of Temecula (Sun City, Menifee) and the rest of the sites are south of Temecula. Can anyone currently in the program tell us where exactly they've had clinicals?

Also, it's much easier to drive into Temecula than it is to drive out. The cost of housing is much cheaper and people will do a bit of commuting for that reason. My last point is that clinicals and classes are only 3 or 4 days a week; any volunteer work or jobs we do would most likely be in SD since there's very little in Temecula aside from houses.

It would be really nice to get input from people currently in the program!! :)

Some of the Temecula ABSN students have gone as far north as Riverside.....I also know of people who go to Hemet, Inland Valley, and I heard this fall students will be going to Loma Linda Murrieta (from faculty, not a student)....but yes you can also be sent anywhere in SD county as well....

Hey there,

I have a quick question for anyone in the program. I have just been admitted and currently live in downtown SD. I have no problem moving, but I'm wondering where the most central location would be? Should I move to Temecula? Or should I stay a bit further south (ie north SD cty)? It seems a bit silly to be running all over 2 counties for the next 2 years so I'd like to be as central as possible. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

I have been told there may be clinicals anywhere from Riverside county to San Diego county. Rumor has it that there may be clinicals at the new Loma Linda in Murrieta. I live in Tem so I will just stay put but there is only one day per week of classes at Tem the first semester and NO clinicals. Thats what I've HEARD. I guess we will know for sure on Aug 8. Probably not a big rush to move here immediately if its a hassle for you.

are the first semester of classes in Temecula? I thought they were in San Marcos, considering they are just upper division GEs.

We'll find out August 8th. The email to register/apply to the school through CSU Mentor was sent out as well....here comes the start of all the fees!

The classes looked like they were in temecula according to the extended learning calendar last semester. What email did you get? Could you PM me a copy because I have had email issues and haven't received any new ones?

Hi All,

I am new on here, but it has been really great reading what everyone else has had to say. I have definitely learned a lot of interesting information. I have also been accepted to the Fall 2011 Temecula cohort, and am very excited! I am currently looking for a roommate if anyone is interested, I have a pretty large house about 10 miles outside of Temecula.

Also, does anyone have any idea how hard it is to get grants or scholarships for this program?

Thanks!

Hi I'm looking to apply to the program for Spring 2012. I was wondering if anyone didn't mind sharing their scores/points received upon acceptance? I want to see if I even stand a chance. Thanks

I have a 37 with a 3.6ish gpa in prenursing core and last 60. my tas was a 90.2. The advisors recommend high teas scores but my teas score is 99th percentile nationally which would mean that to gain the 5 possible points would be statistically extremely difficult.

I recommend that you try to get your pre nursing core to be 4.0, which will help your last 60 gpa and it is the largest point section. It is the most time consuming prospect but that is the only way to do it.

That's interesting because my TEAS was 93.5% and in the 99th percentile as well. Maybe everything above a 90% was in the 99th percentile?

It's all about points, and I figured that the best thing to concentrate on was the prenursing core, as you can get the most bang for your buck with improvements in that section.

I took the teas 4, maybe you took the 5? but my score is well over a year old. I only took it the one time because I wanted to see what it was like and did well enough to not want to take it again. I was surprised that a 90 score ranked so high. I can only assume that nursing programs admissions are similar in not really making it super advantageous to take the test enough times to "master it" with really high scores. Higher score probably correspond to higher GPAs and thus higher admissions points and less need for trying to ace the test. Just a little speculation on my part, but I can only imaging you only want to pay for the test as few times as you can so if you get a decent grade first time you probably don't take it again.
