Cal State San Marcos, CSUSM, Accelerated, ABSN 2011

Published

Anyone planning on applying to the Spring 2011, CSUSM, accelerated ABSN program? Just wondering if there is anyone else out there:)

@gc1010: thanks for the info. it's really helpful to have a clear picture of the cost of everything. so correct me if i'm wrong... but you're saying:

- about 43K for tuition/fees/supplies/books...etc. (for the entire 2 years)

- 40k for housing (the full 2 years)

______________________________

equals about 83K for the entire program plus cost of living.

SO

$83,000 - ($12,500 + $12,500) = about $58,000 is needed...

i don't know if i can swing that... :crying2:

@amyca, that is pretty close, 43k is high though. the low end tuition, suplies and fees is 33-34k but the high end is maybe 35-36. The requirements are well laid out and planned for. the major difference is in weither you pay full price for books and software as that represents the highend. But there is not a lot of play else were from what I understand because you have to use their scrubs, shoes, supply kits. The school is really the fixed cost.

I don't know where you are coming (live) from but the 20k is pretty much room and board but on a mid to high range for a single person. If you lived in a van or rented a room that was really a closet it could be much less. depends on what you are comfortable with. But you need to have things like health insurance, which gets costly, and you should probably have a laptop and good internet access because it is easier to research online. I wouldn't be discouraged by the 20k because it could come down significantly. You would just have to work at it and part of the fun is the extra stuff you do with your cohort, which makes the experience way better.

and there are a bunch of people that are figuring it out as they go along. so just worry about getting in, then worry about money.

@gc1010:

thanks for the sound advice. you've lifted my spirits a bit. :) i don't feel as discouraged as before...

i am starting to think about living out of my van... jk. i live in the san diego area and will be attending the san marcos campus.

oh with respect to the first semester, how many days did you need to be on campus? i'm thinking i may try to continue working through the 1st semester depending on how many campus days/week.

we are only in class 2-3 days a week, for 3 hours a day.

Bad news with the san marcos campus... you are not guaranteed to get it. I applied for cohort 9 or 8-9 because there are two cohorts and I got temecula instead of SM and there is little you can do to vote for one over the other. And it is that way every time. Knowing that I could get temecul again in the spring I just opted for it now. So don't count on SM unless they change the policy of random assignment.

Hi all,

I am new here, I am aiming at getting into the Fall 2012 cohort, any campus will work for me. Just looking into getting in the program. I have all my prerequisites except organic chemistry. I am trying to see if i can take it at the community college ( fundametals of chem in spring and organic chem in summer). Any ideas on shorter routes?....Taken Teas V too, got high 70s thinking of retaking it to get better scores. Anyone with ideas on the average perfomance for Teas V in this college?....ideas please. Thanks....

Hi guys! I just got into the Temecula campus for this spring (2012). Is anyone looking for a roommate/house mate or have any ideas on housing in the area? Any suggestion would help. Thanks!

@Sashapatra:

You mentioned the last class you need is the o-chem. If you've already taken a chem (general, intro, etc.) class you may want to consider testing out of the "Fundamentals of Chemistry" class. This way you can take the o-chem class earlier (Spring). Just a thought... You'd still apply for Fall '12, but at least they can rank you among the applicants sooner than later, thereby allowing you to be accepted earlier. I hope this makes sense...

As for the TEAS and other admission stats check out this link:

Good luck!!!

Hi all,

I'm new to the site/thread. Congrats to everyone accepted & good luck to those looking to apply. I just got into the Temecula Spring 2012 cohort so I was curious as to where other Temecula campus students are living. Don't know much about the surrounding cities, traffic, etc.. so very curious. Any input would be appreciated. Thaaaanks in advance!

@luvChristmas

(Congrats btw!) I've been doing research with the whole living situation too. I currently live in the OC so commuting an 1hr+ isn't gonna work out. Anyway, I've been looking at the surrounding cities i.e. Lake Elsinore (b/w 20- 29 mi away) and Murrieta (less than 10mi) and it seems like Lake Elsinore has some reasonable price ranges. Just not sure if it would be a reasonable distance. Haven't really made any decisions though since I'm hearing you may be able to work for the 1st sem (crossing fingers) and also waiting to get more definitive info re: program costs.

Congrats on getting in! I am in cohort 9 (Temecula). I live up in French Valley, about 15 min from campus. The campus is located off the first exit off the 15 as you enter Temecula. Personally, I would suggest living in Murrieta/Temecula if you can, there are some cheaper places and I would recommend trying to find a place that isn't right smack dab in the middle of the mall area as that tends to be a place of traffic congestion due to the mall and high school. Lake Elsinore isn't exactly the nicest area, so I personally wouldn't recommend living there. For clinicals you can expect to travel to Riverside (Kaiser), Hemet, Inland Valley, and at some points down in North County SD, especially for psych rotation. Advice for traffic, be sure to leave at or before 6a, especially if heading to SD as it gets pretty congested on the fwy. Hope that helps :)

Hi!! I just sent in my deposit for spring 2012 in Temecula and I have not a clue on what I'm going do for living!! Have you figured out anything? I currently live in pacific beach- so if you're in SD would love to meet :)

Thanks @ Stephers85! I definitely appreciate all the info & I'll keep it in mind while I search. :)
