Cal State San Marcos, CSUSM, Accelerated, ABSN 2011

Published

Anyone planning on applying to the Spring 2011, CSUSM, accelerated ABSN program? Just wondering if there is anyone else out there:)

Thanks for your reply djexpress. Are you Temecula? I know the orientation is Aug 8 @ 8am.

Its kind of a relief that the schedule is not so bad early on also because I have heard the program overall is tough.

Definitely looking forward to it though. It seems like it took forever to get my prereqs done though it was only 3 semesters.

Still have one Soc class to complete.

Glad you asked. I looked it up on the Temecula Events calendar and it said Aug 8 ABSN orientation 8-12am. But now it is gone. Well, I guess we can just stay tuned. I need Soc 100. I am going to take it online this fall while starting the program

Congrats to everyone on their acceptance!! I am so excited to finally start nursing school! djxpress, I read in your earlier post that you will be commuting from Rancho penasquitos. Are you interested in carpooling? I am moving in with my brother, and if I'm not mistaken, he lives in the same area (down the 15 past poway). I could be wrong because I am unfamiliar with the area, but it would be nice to have someone to drive with! :] let me know if you're interested!

Definitely interested. Poway is right across the 15 from where I live. Our drive will be pretty nice because we will be going against traffic.

I have a question - a lot of people seem interested in living in North San Diego county versus Temecula but why is that? Per the older threads, we can have clinicals up in Riverside county, i.e. Riverside, Hemet, etc. which is about an hour away from the Vista/San Marcos area. Wouldn't you want to be more centralized and live in Temecula so all clinicals are about 30-45 minutes away at most?

I was actually mistaken, and I think I will be living closer to rancho penasquitos than i thought. I will be living off the 805 freeway, around mira mesa blvd. I hope that's closer! I look forward to meeting you!

Hi Enthused Nurse,

Yes, although it would be much closer to live in Temecula or surrounding areas, I will be living with family (thus no rent) so the cost of my gas will still be cheaper. Although the commute will be a pain in the butt, I think if I find people to carpool with, the drive shouldn't be too bad. Also from what I'm hearing, classes are only about 3x a week so at least I won't be commuting up there everyday. Lol so that's my reasoning.

The reason I'm living in N San Diego County is because I own a condo here. Plus the drive isn't that bad, and it's against traffic.

I think clinicals will be Riverside/San Diego Co. I know Pedis will be at Rady's in SD.

You know I'm still on the fence about this one, but keep in mind that the clinical sites are all over SD county. From their website (http://www.csusm.edu/nursing/clinical-partnerships.html) it looks like 2 are north of Temecula (Sun City, Menifee) and the rest of the sites are south of Temecula. Can anyone currently in the program tell us where exactly they've had clinicals?

Also, it's much easier to drive into Temecula than it is to drive out. The cost of housing is much cheaper and people will do a bit of commuting for that reason. My last point is that clinicals and classes are only 3 or 4 days a week; any volunteer work or jobs we do would most likely be in SD since there's very little in Temecula aside from houses.

It would be really nice to get input from people currently in the program!! :)

Got an email saying the official announcement for orientation (August 8th) will go out once we apply to the university.

When are we supposed to apply to the university?

Hmmm.

I haven't heard anything about applying yet.

Thx for the info about Aug 8th.

It only gives us 3 weeks to do whatever needs to be done.

Hopefully because it is EL they will help us streamline things. I

Also about things like immunizations and such. Hopefully that

Info will come soon.

Thx again.

I've gotten all my immunizations already. If you haven't gotten them, the ones I'm pretty sure you need to get are:

MMR, Influenza, Hep B, Tetorifice/diphtheria/pertussus (Tdap) and TB tests.

The Hep B you should get right away, because it's a 3 part shot that's given over the span of 6-8 months.
