Hi All!
I'm looking into Cal State Long Beach's nursing program and I was wondering if anyone had any input. I know it's very impacted but does anyone know of anyone who went there and what there experience was? I'm interested in the Trimester BSN program which I believe is fairly new. I'm finishing up my pre-req's this coming Fall & Spring at a local community college and I was originally going to do the ADN route then go for the bachelors after but I'd be saving time and money by going directly for the BSN.
Thanks in advance!

Hi! I was just accepted into the BSN program at CSULB for Fall 2006! At orientation I chose to enter the trimester program, which the majority of theother students did as well. I'm sorry but I really can't give any input on the program as of yet, but the staff seems really helpful and organized despite it being a fairly new program. If you have any questions regarding admissions I'm sure I could be of some help, or if you have any specific questions regarding the program I can try to help. As far as the program being very impacted, I guess that would be a matter of opinion. I was told that about 300 people applied. I know for a fact that there are 54 people in the trimester program, but I'm not sure about the semester program, only that it was significantly less. I completely agree that going directly for the BSN will save a lot of time and money, especially with the trimester program. Well, again, if have any more questions I'll be happy to help. Good luck!!!
HI Mandee - thanks for responding! How did you do in your pre-reqs and all that other good stuff? And of course....CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm sure you're very excited about starting in the Fall - good luck!
Thank You!!! I'm so excited, but a little nervous too! As far as the pre-reqs and stuff, I have a 4.0 GPA. CSULB looks at your science pre-req GPA, non-science pre-req GPA, and TEAS score. I had one class in progress (Intro. Organic and Biochem.), so they calculated it as a C, which brought my science GPA down to 3.5 something because it was a 5 unit class. On the TEAS test I got an 89%, I think. I have no idea if that is a good score or not. It was in the 99th percentile for the program though. I think if you have at least a 3.5 GPA you're almost guaranteed a spot.

Did you have an interview before you got accepted to Long Beach Nursing? I just got a call to schedule my interview and have no idea what to expect.

I entered the CSULB Nursing Program Spring 2007 and just finished in December (trimester program) and we didn't have to do an interview. They told us because so many people applied it took forever to do interviews and when they asked why the applicants wanted to be a nurse they got the answer "because i want to help people" and they got tired of hearing that.
Sorry I can't give you advice on specific questions they ask. I would imagine your GPA and TEAS score would be more important in getting in.
GOOD LUCK :wink2:

Its not that hard to get into actually. I got in a semester early (so thats as if one of my science classes counted as a C). The trimester program is old and not fun but you get done faster. CSULB is okay, but I dont have much to compare to. Overall, nursing school sucks all around. Good luck though. Clinicals are a lot of fun. Just sometimes the quality of lecture instructors is lacking.

is there a waiting list for this program>?im graduating with a BSN in sociology w/all pre reqs finished this may and am looking for a school in long beach area to get my RN. Any other schools w/accelerated BSNs in the area??
There is no wait list for CSULB...you have to apply every semester if you didn't get in the previous semester. they have an "alternate list" of maybe 20-30 and those people get to start the program if someone on the "accepted list" changes their mind.
also, i know there are a few other accelerated BSNs in the area but I can't think of any off the top of my head. check the CA BRN website for a list of all the nursing programs.
