Hi, everyone

wanted to know how many of you here are applying to cal state east bay program for the fall of 2012? i know the application doesn't open for another week, but i'm already really nervous about it. for those of you who applied last year what does the application consist of (the supplemental)? any essays?

I have also not taken my teas yet, i know the final day to submit our scores is feburary 15 for the teas. i have bought a few review books one directly from ati and a few from amazon to prepare for the test.

I would really love to get in the program since my other option is USF which is really costly.

anybody else here is going to apply or is studying for the teas test?

My over all GPA so far is 3.79... and it will improve the end of this sememster, im taking my last 2 pre reqs this semester.

what teas score do you think i need to know im granteed to get in?

tell me your stats, lets make freinds and prepare to apply.

thanks,

NIA

I plan on applying to East Bay for Fall 2012. :) The deadline is getting closer!

I was actually wondering about the differences between the Hayward and Concord campuses. I live south of San Jose, so I wouldn't be able to commute to either city. What are some of the reasons you guys prefer one campus over the other?

I've only been to the concord campus, and it is tiny. There are only really 2 buildings and they are smaller. It's about 15 minutes from the freeway too. The Hayward campus seems a lot bigger if you look at a campus map online.

Hey all,

So I'm currently taking physiology, microbiology, & statistics for this semester. I have an overall GPA of 3.8 & my TEAS score is 93.

Do you think it would be okay for me to apply for Fall of 2012, or should I just apply next year, for Fall of 2013? Since physiology, microbiology & statistics are in progress? They are the last and final classes I have to take. I do fulfill CSUEB's requirements, as those classes will be done by the end of Fall 2011.

I was just wondering if it would hurt my chances at all, at being accepted.

and by the way, I am definitely going to get A's in those 3 classes! If that counts for anything. Haha!

I also wish nursing wasn't so competitive and that there was enough room for everyone to be in their dream schools. They should really accept more students into their programs, because there are some CSU's who only accept 24 students out of like, hundreds of applicants! But I guess that's how it is, right?

Of course the schools would be completely packed and full, but I believe that all of us deserve to be nurses. We work hard enough as it is!

I see many people who have outstanding GPAs and have other health-care related experiences as well as having a high TEAS score and yet they STILL get rejected. How can that be??

Somehow I think it's a matter of luck, because my friend got accepted to SFSU for Fall of 2011, and her GPA was a 3.5 & her TEAS score was 85. She had volunteer work, but from what I've seen in these forums - there are people who have SO much than she does - a higher GPA and a higher TEAS score...

so I just don't understand.

According to the nursing website, you should be fine to apply for Fall 2012 because you'll be finished by the end of this semester. They'll take your final grades for those classes into account because you have to send in your transcripts by February 12.

hey make sure you take it with zell, he is a really good speech professor. he makes it so comfortable, dont worry too much you will be fine

"So I'm currently taking physiology, microbiology, & statistics for this semester. I have an overall GPA of 3.8 & my TEAS score is 93. "

hey where are you taking your classes at? im currently taking my last 2 pre reqs too speech and critical thinking at DVC figured i would take easy ones last so i can focus on my teas test. I'm scheduled to take it November 19th

you did so well 93....how did you study for the teas?what books did u use...?

thanks

hey both campuses are the same distance to me , Im in San Ramon.

I prefer the concord campus, since its quieter there. like nicole said its tiny, only 2 or 3 buildings, a few times that i have been there I didn't even see any students. The only problem is that you dont get the whole UNIVERSITY, COLLEGE experience, but honestly that's not very important to me.

hopefully we will all be classmates

Just so you guys know, the biggest difference between the Concord and Hayward campuses is that the Concord program is one quarter shorter. At the Concord campus the nursing program will have classes during one of the summers. If you go to the hayward campus you will get all summers off.

Hey, does anyone know the specifics on how they award points for work experience? Like... is it all or nothing?

I have a year of CNA experience, but definitely not at 50% time. That would mean I would have to work 3 shifts a week... so about 25 hours per week. I know people do it, but as a full time student with tough science courses, I found that to be not an option. Plus at my work it is hard to get consistent hours. So I only averaged at about 1 shift per week over the past year. I know I won't get the full 5 points, but do I get ANY points for work experience? Or just zero??

Hi ella.moore! It says on the requirements that it will be counted as "5 points - for the equivalent of at least 6 months full-time or 1 year part-time paid employment in a health care setting providing direct patient care. "

I think they would give you points for that because you worked as a CNA for 1 year and you were pretty much a part time CNA. I would call the CSUEB Nursing department just to clarify.
