Hi, everyone

wanted to know how many of you here are applying to cal state east bay program for the fall of 2012? i know the application doesn't open for another week, but i'm already really nervous about it. for those of you who applied last year what does the application consist of (the supplemental)? any essays?

I have also not taken my teas yet, i know the final day to submit our scores is feburary 15 for the teas. i have bought a few review books one directly from ati and a few from amazon to prepare for the test.

I would really love to get in the program since my other option is USF which is really costly.

anybody else here is going to apply or is studying for the teas test?

My over all GPA so far is 3.79... and it will improve the end of this sememster, im taking my last 2 pre reqs this semester.

what teas score do you think i need to know im granteed to get in?

tell me your stats, lets make freinds and prepare to apply.

thanks,

NIA

Hi Nia :) I will be applying to east bay for fall 2012 if I don't get into Sac state's program for this spring. As far as the teas go, I'd say you will need to score in the 90's to have a good chance at getting in. I have a 4.0 in the prereqs and 3.95 overall gpa and 91.3% on the teas. Definitely leave time to take the teas twice in case you need to. Even if you don't end up needing to, it takes some of the stress off the first time around knowing that you will have another chance. Are you going to apply to any other schools other than USF and EB?

Hey, I'm going to apply csueb too, Nicole, how did you study for TEAS, i saw you got 91.3, that's terrific, for sure u r in, I took TEAS at eb, 76 :( i studied a lot , but i felt i studied off topic for science portion.

The ati study book is the only book I used to study, even though I had borrowed a couple others. I figured my best shot was to use the book written by the same company that makes the tests. The only reason you might want to get a hold of another company's would be to get more practice for the science section. I know that might be the toughest section, because it covers more information than any of the others. Are you going to take it a second time? Maybe study for sure the topics that the ati score print out tells you you need to work on based on your 1st try.

Are you good at taking multiple choice tests in general? I feel like that is half the battle. If it's not your strongest way to take a test, I'd say take as many practice tests as you can and read the rationals and try to tweak the way you tend to reason through answer choices.

i am also worried about the teas test, i haven't even tried it yet.im currently enrolled at dvc with 12 units taking my last pre req speech and critical thinking , i'm most likely going to schedule it for the next month or so, i did pick up the ati official test guide , its seems easy, except that for me the math by hand part is gonna be really difficult since i took calculus about 7 years ago and haven't done any long division by hand for the past easily 15 years. im planning on finding youtube videos and preparing , you tube videos are good resources makes the learning process a bit tolerable( come on really who does division and multiplication by hand anymore). also on the main ati website you can purchase a practice test for $35. they have 2 versions A and B, i definitely would like to see how i do on those to try to focus my studies on areas i need improving. i think you should check it out. i will let you guys know what day im scheduling my teas, and once i take it i will be more than happy to give you guys as much as information about it as i can. does anyone suggest the online or paper version over the other?

Nicole thanks so much for replying so quickly, was the teas test alot like the ati guide book? or was it completely different? was it more challenging? less challenging?

i am looking for a preparation course as well, cant find anything online, but i have heard of people taking it in the past and how it made a big difference in their grade the second time around.

looking forward to your replies, 2 more days until application day.

Nia

Thanks Niocle , I ll try again then

I took it online, but it would have been nice to actually cross off answers if they let you do that on the paper version. I thought it was very similar to the ati book. The science is just hard to prepare for. With the math, I don't remember doing long division much. I did a whole lot better on the actual test compared to the online practice tests for whatever reason- 80% compared to 91.3%. If multiple choice tests aren't your strong suit, maybe a prep course would help, but otherwise, I don't know that you would really need it.

I think paper version is better since you can" secretly" go back to your unanswered questions

oh and i forgot to add, im also applying to sonoma state, sjsu, chico state, sac state, stanislaus state, was going to apply to hombldt as well but found out they discontinued their nursing program due to budget cuts,(less options for me). i am not picky about the schools, i just want to get in, don't want to get behind for another semester or a year. but the cal state east bay is my first choice since i live in San Ramon, i am very close to the concord extension which is gonna be my main campus of choice. keeping my fingers crossed, hopefully my grades and teas are gonna be competitive enough for the program. its been a long road to be in the position.

i don't have any healthcare experience i wonder how many of the candidates applying are going to have six months paid healthcare to qualify for the extra 5 points.

That's good you are casting a wide net. I go to DVC as well, and I am hoping to get into Sac State's program in this coming spring :)

Hi Nia, I will be taking my pre reqs at dvc next year. How is your speech class going and how many people are in it? I'm terrified of public speaking and I would just like to know how the class is, thanks!
