I have wow cable and i get basic digital cable and internet for about 80 bucks. I had comcast and it was too expensive, about 100-120 for cable and internet.
Do you plan on living in the city of Detroit or the area around it. If you buy a house in Detroit, the property taxes are not cheap.

I live in Roseville, I think it is just okay. Some areas have really nice big houses and some are smaller starter homes, which is what I am living in and it is soooo small. We are planning on moving to Sterling Heights or the surrounding area closer to my dh's work. We have wow also, I pay around the same amount.

I have Directv satellite and AT&T DSL. The cost is just under $100. Some places have all in one for a good price for one year. I'm not sure what's available in that area. Maybe go to that city's webpage and see what they say. Good luck
Thanks for all the replies.
The property taxes are CRAZY!!!!!!! I am looking at houses and I was wondering how the Roseville area is like. What are the great areas to live in Detroit? Is Warren one of the good areas?

I live in Troy and I like it. I've lived in Southgate and Royal Oak before moving to Troy. It takes me about 20 minutes to get to work and I work in downtown Detroit. Other areas that you might be interested in looking at are Ferndale, Oak Park, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights. I don't know anything about Roseville.

Depends on what size cities/ amenities you like.
Personally I prefer to live in a town with an actual downtown with independent businesses and great places to eat, bars etc that are great for 20 and 30 somethings. I prefer to not live in towns that are just spread out and only have strip malls and large chain stores like walmart. For these personal reasons I am a huge fan of Royal Oak and Ferndale. They're super close to highways and provide easy access to anywhere in the area (I can jump on 696 and be in roseville/saint clair shores area in 15 minutes, downtown detroit in 15 minutes---- basically I can get anywhere I would ever need to be in 15 minutes)
Ferndale housing is really affordable too (I know plenty of people who have bought nice size houses near downtown in the 120s and lower) Renting a house instead of buying right away when you get here could be a smart idea so you can familiarize yourself with towns before deciding where to settle.

Ferndale and Royal Oak are very up and coming. If I already didn't live in Troy, I'd be in either of those cities.

Listen, do NOT buy a house until you have lived in the area for at least a year. Rent first. If you think you are gettng a bargain there is probably a reason why. Only millionaires benefit from buying up the ****** forclosures in Detroit. Might as well make a commitment to drive to work. Look a lot farther away from Detroit than you thought you would. Trust me or you will be sorry later. In 5 years down the road you will want to move out farther away from all the crap but you wont be able to because you wont have enough equity in your house, and noone will want to buy your house because the market is not gonna come back for another 15 years, in some places it will never come back.
South Lyon, Milford, Brighton, down 96 or go up 75. Holly or Grand Blanc
I would stay away from buying a repo home out here. At my last job a girl bought a house in Eastpointe which is between Detroit and Roseville that was a Repo. She paid $68,000 which is not bad, but it turned out to be a money pit. I'm sure in the end it will not be worth what she put into it because of the economy.
I'm not saying Detroit is a bad city. I just wouldn't live there. I haven't seen too many nice areas. If you want to be where the young people are, I suggest Royal Oak or Ferndale. There are lots of choices from apartments to renting houses.
Ferndale and Royal Oak seem to be coming up a lot as great places to live. Does this mean this are the only areas where there is a good amount of great stores, entertainment places and young people living in the area?
