CA RN on probation, BRN pending RN position

Published

I was recently placed on probation early this year and my RN position is pending approval. Per my probation officer, it will take up to 3 weeks or more. It's almost 3 months and she still states "it will take 3 weeks or more". It's frustrating because I feel like they lost my paperwork or something. Does anyone know how long it typically take for the BRN to approve RN position? I live in CA. Thank you

Hi there,

Employment requests can take awhile sometimes. 3 months is a bit excessive. Just continue to check with your monitor and if it takes longer than 3 more weeks, you should reach out to the probation monitor manager.

Hello, thanks for your response

I completely agree. I'm also afraid to keep following up. I feel like they might just decline my RN position if I keep following up with them. It's frustrating. By the way, how do I contact the probation manager?

Hello,
I'm an RN dealing with the same issue. I reinstated my RN license and was placed on probation this year, and after applying to over a hundred places, I finally got a job offer. They turned in all the paperwork over five weeks ago. I was also told that the employment approval would take up to three weeks. It is so frustrating because it is not sure how long it will take. I called, and my probation monitor said they are undergoing some changes, which are taking longer than usual, but they can't give me a timeline. Now I'm worried because I'm not sure how long the potential employer would wait for me. Please share any updates you get. I will share any updates here. Good luck.!

Hello,

I didn't even think about that. I did update my nurse manager two weeks ago. Will probably keep updating her. But yes, it is so frustrating. I emailed the probation manager since my officer is out on vacation. Hopefully he can give an answer. Over 2 months is ridiculous.

Glad you were able to do this. I hope you get a response soon!

I believe the wait is up to 3 months now (sad, I know) due to staffing issues etc

You could always email probation monitor for status update. I wouldn't contact probation manager unless that fails (mangers are {PLEASE DO NOT POST NAMES PER TOS})….. easy to get on their bad side (shouldn't be like that but it is)

Thank you !
Emma 7,

Good evening, it's been over 3 months and still they haven't approved my position. Anyone else going through this?

That is excessive. Have you heard from the probation monitor manager?

I have, (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME), but he never responded. There was an error with the position. They had to confirm with my employer then back to nursing consultant. So I don't know if it's going to start another 3 months.

Hi RnJC,

I waited almost three months and finally, got approved last week. I'm not sure how it works if there was an error, but I know a director told me that HR  forgot to send the unit layout/map of the nurse's station for one of her nurses and she had to wait again to get approved hopefully this does not happen in your case. Good luck. I'm sorry that you are going through this I know how it feels. I was literally looking at my emails every time thinking is my approval letter. Stay positive hopefully, you will get it soon.
