Riverside Community College Spring 2011

Applications were due today for Spring 2011 at RCC. Just wanted to say good luck to all the people that applied with me, and maybe we can keep up with each other as we wait for letters to be sent out!

Thanks, and again good luck. :D

Oh even if the grade can be turned inasmuch early as mid Feb?

.. anyone know if rcc adn graduates are getting jobs after graduation?

Ariel: We were called in December when the semester started on Valentines Day (Feb. 14, I think?) So we had over a month to get everything done.

Hawaii: I was an alternate, and there was quite a large number of people that were alternates, but I think we were called and accepted BEFORE the first day of class. Some people got the call a few weeks before class, but I don't think anyone was accepted on the first day. They do NOT give a number for alternate status. They do give you an estimate. In my alternate status email it said I was high on the list, and another person I knew had an email that said they were low on the list, but not to lose hope.

I was accepted to the program a few days before we had our intake day, which is the first meeting where we pick up all the documents we need signed and the info about our immunizations and all that.

I hope you both make it in for next semester!

Thanks for the info and the well wishes!

SORRY, you said Fall but I was thinking Spring. I don't see why they wouldn't take the grade... it would be turned in within a week or so of the due date. If you want to know for sure you have to ask, I'm not an authority on the application process. As for jobs, I'm not sure. It is definitely a tough economy, and I think Riverside county is no longer a critical shortage area. I think new grads everywhere are having a tough time. I know everyone says that RCC has one of the best ADN programs though :p

Yes, I am sure they do. I was willing to start my applying this fall but ADNs are not getting hired so I thought I might as well go for my bachelors

So I am applying to CSULA, CSUSB, and CSULB for fall 2012 and also I am applying to ADN programs for fall too but with the budget crisis and the whole "non-shortage" of nurses, one can't put all their eggs in one basket

From what I hear the reason it is tough to find a job is because new grads have no work experience. I'm not saying a BSN is bad, and I think it is great that you are doing it right off the bat. I think that you would have a better chance of getting a job if you volunteer or find a job at the hospital you want to work at while you are completing your RN, either in a BSN or ADN program.

I'm going to try that over the summer, but I think everyone is keeping their fingers crossed that the job market turns around before we graduate :nurse:

Lol that's exactly what I am hoping. I'm impatient that I'm not in nursing school until (hopefully) the fall even though I qualify for ADN programs this June. But I figure wth? Why not wait, get my BSN right away, and hopefully, HOPEFULLY the economy might not suck as bad as it does now!

Where's that crystal ball when I need it?

I have a friend who graduated from RCC's ADN program in may/june 2010 and was hired in a local hospital's ER in November of 2010.. so yes it is still possible to get a job with an ADN out here, but keep in mind that there is competition with other graduates too. I also have a friend who got her BSN in 2010 and is still searching for a job, so that goes to show that just because someone has a higher degree doesn't guarantee they will get a job right away. Hope that gives you a little insight. :) Good luck

Hey, I was just wondering how long you waited to get into valley?

Like, when did you apply and what semester did you get in? Thanks.

Natah,

I don't know about Valley but I know AVC in Lancaster only has a one semester WL. When I turned in my application, they told me it would be 3 semesters but got an acceptance letter right away and had to defer. Im glad I did because I start RCC in the Fall! Just a thought. It is very smart to get on a waiting list though while you wait! Blessings.

hello all,

valley supposedly has a long waiting list like 3-4 years now. I go to valley and i love it we are exposed to a lot of material and our clinical hours are worth it ;) we do around 21-25 hrs weekly. As for jobs i have friends who have just graduated from valley and rcc and they both got jobs RIGHT away, so its possible. took one of them 2 months to find one but the other it was like 2 weeks

HI everyone!! for those of you who got into the RCC nursing program do you mind sharing what your points were? I applied for spring 2012 and I am so nervous

Each semester the amount of points you need will change based on how much the competition has, but I had 75 points and was placed on the alternate list. I was called a day or so before intake day. Good luck!
